Battle 30 "Delay"

@plasticdub super cool and creepy!

@Servando - great tune. I also love the pic in soundcloud for the track… is that your op-1 all dismantled?

@yoof, yeah… I got some battery issues so I’m currently monitoring “real” battery charge to try to understand how the battery management works… Thx 4 your feedback

Raddd, now we’re going to have PO battles! But suppose I SHOULD… enter one battle, first.

The PO launch delayed, layed, yed, ed me a bit from delivering for this battle, but here it is. Please enjoy…

@overseas_Territory thanks for hosting this very nice one!

Here is my track for the battle! Delay on kick, percussion, bass, master = total delayness

@marijn really cool my kinda vibe, I like that “delayed due to some reason” lol

@Muhr what a sweet beat, what’s the bass sound? it’s so good

here’s mine for the fun of it:

Ha, nice entries…s…s! Cheers @overseas_Territory for the delay rules, a reason to go full on Irie Vibes dub style

Last year I’ve played a lot of accordion with a drummer who was into Dub reggae and we jammed out hours on 2 chords and imitating the delay feel… was good fun + learned a trick or two about “rastah vibrations” (speaking it out like a Jamaican toaster)

Sooo… because samples where in the option, I’ve took a TR 505 kit because I really liked the rimshot in delay. The bass I’ve made in D-synth… chords from a brass JX-3P sample and the BLOW patch out of the “cluster” area. And I was into drawing wolves that day, so I recorded a wolvencry of youtube, to give it panache…

+ it delivered a trip drawing inspired from the song.

Pretty hard to make a track with only delay. Gets muddy REAL fast. First Battle entry too (-.-)/

Hope you guys enjoy.

Oh btw its just 1 FM synth patch (multiple recordings at different detune), a kick and a snare. There is delay on everything, even master

Well, after a few abortive attempts, I decided that simplicity was going to work best for me on this one. I settled for 2 tracks of the FM synth (both running through delay) plus a sample from Dune (David Lynch 1984) and a “desert wind” sample.

EDIT: I’ve missed a few comps, so I didn’t realise that there was one with a Middle Eastern theme already. Ah well - I picked the middle Eastern style because I watched Bitter Lake last night (which in turn made me dream about Dune) Bitter Lake is a documentary film by Adam Curtis, covering the soc/pol history of Afghanistan. Well worth a watch if you have access to BBC iPlayer (see embedded link).

@Ceefax wow, good stuff… I think I know we’re my vote is going in the poll.

dropping this one for battle 30. please enjoy.

@kln Trippity trap! I’m diggin’ your jam man.

@moedars Thanks for the props dude, I liked your track too. I almost went for the dub styles myself, but veered off and went middle eastern instead.
(oh and nice drawing btw! - I’d love to get back into graphic art, but I feel hamstrung without my wacom)

@marijn nice subway vibe. It made me think of that weird far eastern film (shot in first person iirc) in which a guy consumes an heroic dose of DMT and then gets shot to death and flies around as a ghost.

@Overseas_Territory Loving the warped VHS vibe you’ve got going on. I love doing things like that with OP1 and also with Reason’s tape echo. Do you like Com Truise?

@Erhenius I see you went FM and minimal too. I reckon your track could join mine in a ropey, low budget Richard Stanley movie (of ‘Hardware’ fame(?))

@plasticdub definately weird; I was worried it was going to induce a bad salvia flashback

@dunmc Apt title. I can imagine your track going well with flashing, blinking imagery of molecules bouncing around, or electrical pulses or damaged celluloid.

@Servando Nicely spacey. Reminds me of those late night (possibly stoned) zoned-out mental states. Those times when playing with sound can get very abstracted and meditative.

@Muhr I don’t know what it is exactly, but I’m getting a real Amiga A500 vibe from your track. I wonder if it’s tickling a long lost memory of a videogame I used to have or something.

Loving all entries so far, I think the restrictive rule-set has brought out some some really interesting ideas.

struggling to post an embed player here nvm

@SLOTH just paste the url for your soundcloud track into your message - at least that works for me - you won’t see the full player view at first but it will magically appear after a few seconds

Hahaha yeah, was also my first thought when I heard yours.
It wasn't my initial track though. I had something quite lively and very old ethnic style with FM, Pulse, several String and Dbox. BUT I managed to lift and loose 8 Bars that I was gonna play with. I just sat there with a blank stare, hahahaha, blood boiling.

EDIT:
I really enjoyed taking part in this battle, first one so far. I have just started making music that I actually like. These restrictive rules have helped me to learn a bunch of new things that I have overlooked. Before this battle I thought that delay was just.... well... same-stuff-but-later. I can say that thanks to this battle I have a better grip on delay. Will definitely try to join all new battles, hooked!

Really beautiful, @Ceefax!

@overseas_territory Thanks man! Don´t remember which engine I used, might be the pulse? I just know that I used lots of delay haha. It feels so wrong to put delay on bass and kick.

@kln Thanks!!!

@kln bounce! good track! much movement and variation… love it!
