Beat match mode for midi-sync with tom cat?

Hey guys,

If I connected an Akai Tom Cat to the OP-1 via usb cable and use ‘beat match’ mode on the OP-1, would the Akai midi sync with the OP-1 so I can set tempo using the OP-1?

I’m finding it hard to get a definitive answer on this online so hopefully you can help! Many thanks

Are you using a midi host?

The Tom Cat seems to have a USB device port only. While I could not find a definitive statement to that effect every documentation I found only says “connect to computer” which is IMHO very indicative.

That means you won’t be able to to connect the Tom Cat and the OP-1 directly. You need an USB host like a computer or iConnectMIDI. According to the manual you should be able to set the Tom Cat to sync to an external signal which would allow you to get it to Sync to the OP-1 clock.

Disclaimer: I don’t own a Tom Cat, the above info is based on what I found on the web.

Thanks a lot for this, very helpful. I don’t own a Tom Cat either currently but looking for a cheap drum machine. I have a few other toys that I’d like to sync up with the OP-1 so maybe it’s time to invest in an audio interface.
