ELLO.co (New Social Site)

Anyone else on here managed to get themselves onto ELLO.co?

It seems to be a pretty good place for bands, designers, artists etc to be …

Add me if you’re on there!

I’m there: https://ello.co/deansabatino

I added you but I have yet to post anything there…

It’s early-doors for everyone on the new site I guess. Interested to see where it goes …

I’m so excited for this. Anything but FB, Anything but FB, Anything but FB, Anything but FB, Anything but FB . . .

Don’t want to rain on your parade @Tribrix, but…

tl;dr: unlike what they say, they have taken venture capital, and so are under obligation to monetize the users just like Facebook…

But agreed, new social networks can be exciting! At least for a while.

I’m not expecting eden @vehka , lol, but as horrible as MySpace was, I never felt so victimized as I do by FB. All social networks will have to monetize their users (to some extent, I guess), but Zuckerberg is just a complete A**hole about it.

Rant begins: When I joined FB in 2008 it was really useful for connecting with friends, less so for promoting stuff than MySpace was, but in the last six years they have, over and over and over again made the service more frustrating an less useful, all the while violating our privacy like they are the NSA or something (specifically, making it harder, many times, to limit what your friends and the public sees, so share in a more limited way, if you will). I even left FB, cold turkey, for a year once, but my friends convinced me to return, and it was only worse than when I left, lol. At this point, FB can go on and still be the main social network of the world, but I’d like a viable choice (not Google plus, eek, such a ghost town), someone who could stand eye to eye with Zuckerberg and force FB to be more like it was when I joined (I’m not holding my breath). Rant ends, thank you for your time (apologies to anyone offended).

This, @vehka beat me to it. They talk about transparency and then don’t mention it on their site at all. Not that they’re under any obligation to, either, and I guess to be technical they “did it themselves” in that they probably sought out the venture capital to get their project off the ground on a mass scale. But they had to know it would get out and sour a lot of people to the platform.

I hope for their sake I hope they can make their monetary obligations through the freemium model they are trying to implement.

RE: ind.ie - It is a bit funny that Aral’s first Heartbeat client will be for OS X, the most closed OS out there >.> still looking forward to ind.ie stuff and very curious about their phone, though.

its funny that that article is written by a dude who has a similar, maybe even competing social media site/experiment similar to ello going.

overall tho, i don't really care much about all this stuff.
