I just bought an Octatrack

The OT is about fun for me. If I were to make any money from my sonic noodles then great but it’s so much more than a sampler. It has breathed all sorts of new life into my set up and has happily become the heart of it @donellfinn

Made some good progress on a track tonight. Taking the same idea as the last track (hip hop beat with weird noises) but in a different way. Should eventually have enough material for an EP to put on the ol’ Bandcamp there.

Not a lot of progress in the last few days. Lots of taking friends for drives in my new car and such. Plus I have a sinus infection or something. Hampering the creativity a bit there.

I got ideas, though!

@jellygeist have you tried to MIDI drive some external gear ?
The MIDI side of OT is much fun, as plockable arps and LFOs
I use an external keyboard to enter chords, it feels very natural…

Are you driving your OT ?

Edit - Decided to cannibalise some of those recordings I linked in this post earlier. Mod delete post please  Thanks

Damn, and I had made a mental note to come back and listen!

Haha, changed mind after listening to a few of them again. Instead of leaving them indefinitely as a load of unfinished songs I'm just gonna take the best little sections and throw them in some of the other stuff I'm working on.. Lazy/easy way to fill some holes ;)

Sometimes it’s cool to just make a medley out of all the skits.

I have yet to take the OT for a spin in my new car but it shouldn’t be long now. Maybe I’ll get some ideas from cruzin’

One thing I’m a bit confused about is what the difference between Flex and Static machines are. I know that Flex is loaded into the RAM, but what more can be done to samples there as opposed to Static machines?

Don’t quote me on it but I think the main differences are in the sample edit pages (flex has more options available). And if I remember correctly I think maybe you need to use a flex machine it you want to allocate a Rec buffer to a track? Not sure tho… Need to spend some time refreshing myself with OT. Forgotten a lot. Been too long :frowning:

Maybe this thread useful -

That was very useful, thanks for sharing!

Added a baseline from the OP-1 and took out a weird pad on the project I’m working on right now.

Ran into that issue where the Static machines took a bit to start up again if I had the crossfader on a scene with a lot of stuff changed. I’ll probably just change a lot of that stuff over to Flex machines.

Of course, paranoid me though the CF card was dying already.

I never had any trouble with my 32GB CF card.

You might check on Elektronauts what kind of CF card is recommended.
What is yours ?

It’s just the one that came with the Octatrack. I’m pretty sure it’s fine, just me being paranoid.

OK : no, you have to get another one, a serious one.

Do a little search on the subject on Elektronauts to make up your mind.
32GB is a good size, but you have to get the fastest possible, with a very good quality.

I will look into it. How does one transfer all the projects and samples from one card to another?

It’s just files, you put the files and folders into your computer and bring them back into the other card.

Aight. Will look up new cards when I get home from work.
