I just bought an Octatrack

;-)

Could somebody point me to the best video describing how to set up that stutter / beat repeat / freeze delay thing that dataline often does in his videos? From the looks of things, that's also a scene based trick is it?
It's actually in the manual. You set up the freeze delay on each track a certain way. Then there is a play mode that pads 1-8 choose the note division and 9-16 chose the track it affects.

Ah nice one @Virtual_Flannel, will defo experiment later

You have to set a delay on your track (can be the master.
In delay setting menu (double tap), set LOCK to 1 and maybe TAPE to 0, depending of the style of stutter you want.
In the regular delay menu set SEND to e.g. 1 and FB to 127.

Then you can either set the crossfader to get the SEND value to 0 when you want the repeat, or more conveniently use the DELAY CTRL mode (Fn + 5 down)

To play with the DELAY CTRL mode you have to be in play mode, not in grid mode = led of the rec button unlit.
You can now press your track button on the 8 right tracks to freeze the repeat and while holding it, press one of the 8 left button to set the length of the repeat.

You beauty, @LyingDalai - cheers for the detailed instructions. Looking forward to giving it a go!

Thanks @Virtual_Flannel and @LyingDalai for your tips, got that delay control mode working last night.

I also got the transition trick (sampling track 8 as the master) working (after removing my LFO on the filter - d’oh). One snag though, the sampled audio on my scene B sounds quieter than the internal sounds on my scene A (not massively, but noticeably). Any obvious gotchas to look out for?

Feast your ears! The bassline is from the OP-1

A much better track than the last one:

An even better track. Pretty happy with how this came out:

nice textures! I love Impact Gardening, it has some really great melodic bits that come in and out.

I just got an octatrack a few weeks ago and instantly clicked with it as an electribe ES-1 replacement. I haven’t tried recording into it yet but I’ve been using it as an effects processor and general sample mangler. here’s a jam from lastnight:

and something I did with OT+nord lead (which I got a couple of weeks ago):

Fuck, the octatrack sounds complicated.

I really want one

The times I’ve used my OP-1 with my Octatrack, I just ended up thinking “I can do most of this ON the OP-1” ten times faster!

Now obviously the OT can do more, but if the OP-1 is your source for a lot of the sound, its easier to just keep it there. Just goes to show the power of the little OP-1.

Ha! it’s funny how little my OP-1 is used now that Elektrons have entered my life. Although I think the OP-1 was crowded out more by the Monomachine than anything else. Although when we had a sudden power outage yesterday, I could at least sit outside and keep jamming on the OP-1 while the Octatrack and other synths were dark.

I’m struggling a bit with Octatrack, but I think it may have more to do with me not being a heavy sampler-user so I’m just not used to thinking in samples as much when I have so many synthesis options nearby. But in the first few weeks of Octatrack ownership, it was worth it alone in the ‘performance hub’ kind of setup with Machinedrum and Monomachine (acting as a mixer / compressor / fader, with a little bit of resampling and mangling) and as a MIDI sequencer for the Novation Circuit.

Some stuff I won’t use the Octatrack for, just because I want it to have a certain feel that the sequencer in the OT can’t give me.

The last track is supposed to be like ambient hip-hop so the OT is pretty good for that. Just found a free drum loop and went to town
