After 2 years of 31days/31jams, I’m challenging myself to finish four full tracks this month. Hopefully channeling some of the Jamuary spontaneity to blow through any creative blocks.
day 1 was a bit canned, but I have a good sense of the key elements I want in this first track:
It’s hard not to overthink it and wonder if they’re any good. Hopefully that feeling will go away with time. I also want to turn bits into full songs, but that part is a bit of a struggle for me
I’m using it to learn a bit more about crafting sounds, scales & chords, sampling on OP-Z, and understanding different synthesis types on my new MicroFreak.
Day job starts tomorrow so doubt I’ll keep up one a day.
Would be great to hear what others in the forum are up to.
The opening sample is an OP-1 patch I recorded off camera (complete with saturated reverb from the master fx+drive), and the keys sound is from the Tempest. Guitar and glitchy perc from the octatrack, which also lends the Tempest some reverb.
This one’s all OP-1, with a mic plugged in for vocals
missed one day so far. my goal of making a complete track every week (ish) is hard. I pivoted too far away from the spontaneity that drove the past two years.
Today I got back on track with a proper jam, still tied to the current track.
Hard to beat the A4mkii on versatility in percussion
I’ve been doing Jamuary every day but just realized we had this thread. So here’s my most recent post.
This one is another modular - OP-Z hybrid. Started out with the ambient pad on the OP-Z and the slow arp using Plaits. I then added a second arp within the OP-Z, wrote some drum parts, and combined it with the Blck_Noir. (Everything sequenced by the OP-Z)
I know it stresses people out and that isn’t healthy, but I quite enjoyed. I managed 12 posts. Took it as a chance to learn more about sampling on OP-Z and my MicroFreak.
