Korg volcas - impressions

The Zillion is very deep once you get into it. It’s all about probability and shifting bits around the registers to get a pleasant result that evolves over time.

The volcas work very nicely with the pocket operators, IMO. I had the keys slaved to the clock from the PO-12, with both plugged into one of those little wagon wheel things with multi input for mp3 players. Can’t remember the brand. Green cord. Plug it into a mini speaker & you’re all set.

^ Belkin Rockstar!

I had the sample and sold it as I found the lack of patterns too limiting and the lack of options quite annoying, then bought an FM and have been really enjoying it. Lots of live tricks to mix up the sound - that arp is magical.

A Belkin rockstar is ok to use as a clock splitter, just remember never to use it as a mixer, unless you do not mind levels changing on the other devices when you turn one down, sending all the outputs of your gear into eachother, and loading the input of the device on the output.

I literally cringe every time I see someone saying that the Belkin Rockstar can be used as a mixer, More info here:

Specifically the Volca designer Tats warning "Have you seen this? It’s called a Belkin Rockstar. It’s like a passive mixer with a wired input, and then any of these 3.5mm sockets can be inputs or ouputs, and it doesn’t need any power. So it’s ideal for mixing the Volcas [NB: this has since been questioned, Tony and Tats cannot be held responsible if the world (and your volca) comes to an end because you are using a Belkin Rockstar as a passive mixer].
