This worked Vanta. Thanks. I wrote up my process. Hopefully, it’ll help someone.
how to get bluetooth midi working with midi surf
Apps you’ll need:
-
Official Teenage Engineering OP-Z iPad App
-
Web MIDI App
-
& the MidiSurf.app webpage
-
Bluetooth MIDI Connect App by Korg BLE MIDI (optional maybe??, details below)
All these apps are available on the Apple App Store
Steps
Phase 1 - Connect OP-Z and OP-Z App via Bluetooth
-
Fire up the OP-Z app
-
Power on OP-Z
-
Follow the directions on the screen and push the PUSH button located on the bottom of the OP-Z
-
Push the SCAN button to the go the next page
-
Click on the OP-Z to connect to it
-
Wait at this screen
-
Change apps and open the Web MIDI app
-
Type: midisurf.app into the address bar
-
When the Web MIDI app opens you may need to swipe down to see the address bar
-
Click the Close button to close the introduction screen
Phase 2 - Connect Web MIDI app to OP-Z via Bluetooth
- Swipe down from the white space of MIDI Surf page. This will bring up a menu bar across the bottom of the page. From the menu bar you can access: Settings, Share the App, and access to your Bookmarks
- Click the cog icon in the bottom right-hand corner to go into Settings
- Click Setup Bluetooth MIDI Central
- Click your OP-Z, once it connects, click the back arrow to go back to the Settings main page
- At the Settings main page, you see if Session 1 and Bluetooth you should be good, click Done
At this point you should be at the MIDI Surf app screen. Press a few buttons. I’d encourage you to download the templates the developer awesomely made available for free. You can access them from the github page at the bottom.
I know there are probably many other ways to accomplish this but this is the way that worked for me. Hopefully it’ll help someone. How do you accomplish the same goal? Share it and I can update my process. Also, let me know of any obvious improvement and/or corrections.
Thanks
HiFi
Note:
The PUSH button activates bluetooth pairing mode on the OP-Z
I had the KORG BLE MIDI already installed, but I don’t know if it assisted me in connecting the OP-Z and the Web MIDI app via bluetooth, soooooooo, there’s that.
