just finished a track with a friend of mine https://soundcloud.com/grumpysnorlax/fuelh-x-grumps-pallet-town

also I did a little live video of one of the takes https://www.instagram.com/p/Ba_zE8pl03j/?taken-by=grumpysnorlax

Loved the sampled intro which loops over the whole track. The fadeout on this loop includes a low pass filter sweep and sounds great, this could have been incorporated at other times in the track too maybe?. The melody that comes in at c.30 seconds seems a bit loud to me, wonkiness of it is good but maybe try a bit more variety in the sound. Same goes with the bass which is a bit buzzy and not sure it really fits. Sounds more like a looped beat than a finished track given that there isn’t really any structure to the piece. Just listened on laptop speakers so can’t really comment on the mix, sorry.

Has potential!

Hey guys I just finished up my beattape made entirely on the op1 using the album feature to record everything! https://soundcloud.com/grumpysnorlax/mega-punch

Listened a couple of times so far. This is fantastic!

And the fact that it’s all made on the OP-1 - so inspiring…

You’re proving that good music does not need to be perfectly mastered. Neither complex. Maybe sometimes a lot of things going on in a narrow frequency band but in most cases this is one of those things what makes this mixtape so cool. Thanks for sharing

Lol I'm trying to embed a soundcloud link but not having much luck? :)

I got there in the end :)

I like your style man!

Looks like whole soundcloud profile is worth a while - already subscribed and will be exploring in free time.

Regarding your latest track I like especially the part with the perc/drum sounds which starts at about 3:12. I’d put even more percussive sounds there. Very nice sounds on all over the track. I also love that it evolves and there are plenty of new ‘features’.
Great work

My new electronic duo. Made with only original sounds and patches. All percussion sampled from my kitchen with the internal mic of the OP-1.

hey, i thought i’ll try to put together a review for your track and i’m sorry in advance for it might not be a comprehensive one.

i’m bad at genre definitions, but your track sounds like a nice chill out easy listening tune to me and i suppose would go well as a background music in one of the local coffee shops - at least myself would be very glad to hear it in that kind of environment. now

what i like:
  • the overall mix and sound canvas is very nice;
  • i really like how you put the percussions - beat variations are awesome and make to whole track kind of multiplex;
  • the melody phrase is simple, yet pretty and gallant;
  • the pads are very, very nice, especially with their rhythm;
what i personally would’ve changed and/or improved:
  • being a bass player for the most of my life, i really miss a bass line here. kick drum’s lows do pull the drums and melody together, but my ears want more glue for those two layers to stick together in a more vibrant way and provide a bit more of a groove;
  • to my taste, there are a bit too many pause-like breaks in the beginning - i would personally get rid of one or maybe even two of those;
  • my mind somewhy expected the melody phrase to develop further in the final parts, somewhere between 4:00 and 5:00.
i really hope you find my humble impressions useful or at least won’t be mad at me :slight_smile:

I gotta get up in this thread. I’ve been scared to take it on :stuck_out_tongue:

So much good shit here.

I would love some feedback on this. It was made on holiday with the OP-1 and later added some overdubs with a space echo. Not touched a DAW, all seq on the OP

Hi @brnsctr

I really liked your beats, just vibing out while reading to your music.
Excellent mixes and use of the stereo field as well. You could maybe try
to develop the musical energy by building in some drum fills. Cheers M

Hey guys, I’d love to share some work i’ve been doing solely on the Teenage Engineering OP1 lately.

No post processing, all one take performance recorded to album with an Avalanche Run reverb/delay pedal on the master.

Piano and tape warble provided by resampling into a dictaphone and back into OP1.

Your feedback is welcome. Keep up the awesome work guys and girls!

On 2nd listen @lescour1 I can really appreciate the way you’ve chopped it and arranged the parts on the OP1 tape. That really works. So its well written in that regard.
Also nicely played. Hearing your pre production story paints it clearly how well this piece is done and I would incourage a development of this style with more experiments like this. (You may well already be or will do). It certainly creates a vibe, texture and atmosphere. It’s like an ambient, beatless answer to Hyperdubs excellent Burial, if you pardon comparisons.
It’s got depth that pays off and can be heard.

Thank you for your kind words, really it means a lot that somebody can listen to a piece of my work and totally ‘get’ my philosophy and the style I’m going for. Burial is a massive influence for me in regards to making electronic music and I take particularly inspiration from his production technique of working ‘off grid’. Hence my use of the tape and preferring to play my music rather than sequence it. Many thanks again
