Hi everyone.
So excited that my op-1 Field is out for delivery
I have some questions
Would you suggest updatinng the op-1 first and if so do I need to back anything up ? Like presets etc
I have a couple of the liven synths and I made the mistake of accidentally over writing some patches and I hadn’t backed up anything.
Anything you all can suggest would be greatly appreciated.
I already have the analog case and the Decksaver is on its way
I use an iPad Pro for most of my recording ajd I have a Mac with logic as well.
Thank you again !!

I would fire it up to make sure it is working properly. Make a track just as a test. You will want to know if the OP was faulty or if something went wrong after the firmware update, and establishing that everything works before updating is the way to do that. Since it will be brand new, you don’t have anything to lose, so go ahead and do the update. Might as well get all the fixes so that if you encounter a problem and post here, you won’t be running into a known problem that was fixed in a firmware update.
I have never had a problem updating, so I doubt you will either, but using the OP for a bit first to insure it is fine is the best way to do this - one step at a time.

congrats! you will love it. it is an excellent device. very deep, very fun, very playful. yes update to the latest FW immediately just for access to all the latest and greatest for your own benefit. no need to back anything up prior to.

that’s a great point by @tbeltrans - you’ll want to, after updating FW, just make sure the basics are all working.
- all keys play well on the keyboard
- built in mic sampling works
- line in and line out work
- built in speaker makes sound
really basic stuff. once that is out of the way, which won’t take long, just have fun with it. i liked reading the tiny paper manual page by page along with the device to get fully acquainted with it but you might just want to jam out without any prior knowledge, that is up to you.

Thanks so much. Great advice !!
Hey there
I did everything you said. Working my way through the manual. I even made a quick sample and saved it as an instrument. Woo hoo
I managed also to check the firmware and guess what ? It seems to be on the latest
I even downloaded the free pack !!
Any other suggestions most welcome
I can see that the tape thing for recording is gonna be a little challeng in getting it right. But I will work on that slowly
I haven’t even gotten to the sequencer in the manual yet
Any way. First impression. I am in heaven and it is everything and much more than I could ever have imagined !!
You know I got close to have the grand that it was and they up and changed it to 1299 so I bought a Moog grandmother (made in the USA) which I still have an love but I think it’s kind of funny how I went from getting this little diminutive synth to the big big grandma !!
Also I got my deck saver. I did get the analog case and I know folks have said you can use it with the deck saver for extra protection but it feels a bit snug. So I just ordered a larger case Lets see how it goes. I’ll make a post if I love it
