New OP-Z Footage!

I’m curious how much cv you can sequence — with all the eurorack madness these days, it would a shame if they went all midi... imho. I’m def on the fence about it. It could be amazing. ....or not! Personally I really dont like the direction TE went after the op1, the oplab (ugh!)... the POs are great for what they are and many peole have made great tracks on them, but I can’t stand those things... terrible user interface, worst screen usage i maybe have ever seen.. triple button function combos... basically the exact opposite of everything I love about the op1.

If the opZ is an op1 in PO clothing, thats my worst fear…

Yep, me too. I have a modular set up and to be able to trigger sequences from the OP-Z is pretty exciting for me, TE says it can sequence CV so I’m hoping for CV pitch/gate output. Of course TE might mean CV clock output only. Wish they would release this info so people could make decisions on if this hardware is right for them.

The specifications in the web talk about sequencing MIDI, CV & trig, light and motion, and there are 4 minijacks connectors in the back of the OpZ. We can speculate. I am thinking about these may be:

-1 minijack for MIDI out, like the Arturia beatstep
-1 minijack for MIDI in.
-1 minijack for CV & trig, like the Elektron Analog Four.
-1 minijack for clock in/out

Motion sequencing should be done via USB as you need a computer running Unity. And light sequencing I dont really know…

I’ve been told “not two many more months” til release by a TE sales rep. The ‘two’ might be a hint…

Sounds about right. Probably, the DMX side of things is done through the MIDI out also.

It should released by Superbooth or Musikmesse then

Yeah Superbooth would be my guess

Also was told my prediction of £400 was “probably not too far out” …make of that what you will

If it was in the £300 to £400 range I’d maybe tempted.

Its 600 euro.

There are prices in Sweden for kr 5.999 so around 600 euro.

@mcpepe i had understood from the online resources of various places that the unity integration stuff would mostly happen over bluetooth to ios devices for example? there was a mention that ios would run a parallel sound engine to actually do all the processing on the unity device so there woudn’t be any latency. therefore, it might be that the video sequencing doesn’t need usb?

I honestly don’t get why people are so hung up about the price.

I imagine it will have the functionality of at least the three metal Pocket Operators combined ($89 each), probably the actual functionality of 5-6 PO’s combined, alongside possibly a bunch more features. Then it seems to come with bluetooth, CV, MIDI, and a 16 hours rechargeable battery. Not to mention the ability to attach any screen (like others have said, won’t be critical for regular use) and connection to Unity.

How tf people think that $599 is too much is beyond me ¯_(ツ)_/¯

The problem is expectation management. TE has always been bad at that. The TE people said in the beginning that they plan the price to be around 400 euros. (Correct me if my memory fails me.) Now, a 50% hike seems a lot.

In principle I agree with you @millbastard – the price ain’t bad if it does all that we are being promised. =)

I’m totally new to TE and devices such as these. I play guitar and have used loopers and some basic music making apps but that’s about it. For me the price of the OP-Z is key as to whether or not I take a punt and get one… I was going to get the PO-33 KO but with the OP-Z just around the corner I figured I’d wait and see

vehka says it perfectly, TE stated many times they wanted to make an affordable product around 400 euro (somewhere in-between a PO and the OP-1), they have chose to go for 600 euro. From my perspective if you don't have an IOS device and yes some of us don't want an IOS device it makes using the OP-Z cumbersome regardless how little it is, I understand you can use it without a screen on the road which awesome but obviously a screen is needed for a lot of functions make no mistake. This make the 600 euro price a factor when choosing to buy a OP-Z. I wouldn’t call it complaining at all.

I dont understand if they dont make a regular vst/au plugin.

Its good to have IOS support but please dont skip the regular vst plugin!!

…and to build on that further (and please correct me if I have any of my information wrong). With my understanding of how dual domain synthesis works, when hooking it up to an iPad all the sound is generated on it as well. So for something that has a simple button interface couldn’t we basically do the same thing with a dedicated app and an audio interface? That would save probably $400 when you subtract the audio interface and app cost.

Additionally, from what I remember, they’ve said that it’s using many of the same synth engines from the op-1 (which fits some of the sound demos I’ve seen). So really from what I can see, what we would be getting new is the workflow (which for me is the biggest draw) and interface/visualization (which is dependent on another device) and maybe some sound stuff depending on how that turns out.

I just don’t see how that fits a price that is %75 if the cost of the op-1. I do really hope I’m wrong, but still not making much sense to me this far.

It may be worth more, but I’m not prepared to pay more!

@zyrixian speaking of the synth engines, its kind of strange that all the demos so far haven’t really focused on the sounds at all, but rather the sequencing possibilities. i get it that the point is its powerful sequencing. but at the same time it does actually have its own sounds which we haven’t really seen featured yet…
