Noob alert - OP-1 as complete production unit

Hmm I only use it for transferring files and changing the code on my arduinos, no issues so far. I don't really use it as a tablet. To each there own I guess. It's still a very cheap solution for op1 backup/file transfer.
I found even the simplest task of backing up & moving to Dropbox to be an exercise best suited for a micro surgeon.
I've made like 9 albums using only the OP1 and OTO Biscuit. It's amazing, but I feel it's really suited to my Lo-fi hip hop style. If you are making more normal music where you are looking for a really crisp produced EDM or pop sound, it's probably best as a sketch pad or another tool within your greater rig. I suggest checking out the Your Music thread on here. Lots of OP-1 only stuff to give you an idea of what can be done.
Yo man can you attach some of your instrumentals? I'm really interested in hearing anyone do lofi hip hop because that's along the same lines as what I use the OP-1 for. I'd love to hear if you're ever trying to share!

Not to hop on Flannel’s thread… But I have a few LFHH joints. All OP.

You killed it! Drum loop on the first one is killer, sample with the sample loop on the last. There were some other ones in the second live video that were crazy too. I gotta figure out how to get my drums to have that swing and hit that yours have. I have trouble with that because I can’t EQ my drums after I record them and doing small adjustments to the loops is difficult for me using the sequencer. Any tips on how to deal with those issues?

Hi dude, welcome. The green knob is your swing function on the endless sequencer. I also produce that kind of loop based beats. I usually do a 4-track loop in this order: drum, main sample, layer, bass. Then I play around with the tape tricks and m1 m2 fx to add a bit of variety. This is a good example, 100% OP-1:

@Unflattered haha I see we also met on the Akai MPC-forums
I like the new one you posted there btw.
Cheers

What @lefilou said is crucial, because the swing setting is really sweet. That aside, there’s a lot to be said for short 1-2 bar drums that you play in naturally, w/o sequence. I find that the combo of the master EQ / Effects (Nitro!) and the Master / Compressor go a long way in pumping up and crispifying the whole joint.

@unflattered @lefilou thanks for sharing guys! i’m going to use that track as some inspiration and definitely use those tips.

8 months!! Any progress? Did you get your head around it all?
