an external audio card will do!
albeit that contradicts the “ultra-portable” aspect of that setup…
You’re right,
So a powered usb hub should be useless in order to eliminate the hiss?
Is an audio card the only solution?
I don’t know if it could be useful but I got also an iPhone
You can at least try a hub. If you are lucky, the noise will either be quieter or/and a bit different but still.
Best would be a dedicated audio interface.
Turn off charging of the OP-1 when connected up stops the noise for most.
How do you use the two together?
Maybe explain to us what it is you want to achieve connecting the op-1 to iPad? I’m using my iPad to record softsynths to tape on the op-1. All I need is an aux-cable. The cck helps me using the op-1 as a midi-controller to the iPad, and I have also played around with AUXY as a sequencer for the OP-1.
OK.
CCK for USB midi in-out with iPad.
AUX cable for sampling the iPad to tape.
Audio interface (class compliant) for audio FROM op-1 to iPad. (Effects processing and shit:p)
Thanks
I ordered a CCK too with the iPad.
I don’t have an audio interface,
Could you give me any advice on a nice (possibly portable) one?
Initially I was thinking of this scenario:
Op-1 midi out to iPad and
iPad audio out to Op-1 audio in
(At the same time)
But for this purpose I will need a powered USB hub, and I don’t like to have a lot of cables and dongles since I plan to use the two in a portable way.
(Having a little boy in da house I don’t have a music room anymore).
No need for a hub! USB to CCK into the iPad, and aux-cable (minijack) from the iPad headphone out to input on the op-1. A hub is allright if you need to charge the iPad while you play.
I have a roland duo capture ex interface. It runs on AA-batteries, and is compatible with iPad/iPhone. If you have a little more cash, the zoom h6 will do the job, but also provide more inputs and a x/y-mic for better sampling! Also batterypowered. The H6 is a field-recorder/audio interface. I use it to record my banjo into the op-1.
I’m sure there is even more portable options, but i’m very pleased with my setup with the H6.
No need for a hub!I was reading 'bout digital noise issues, Obviously it's better if I'm wrong :)
Aha. Not had any issues! Not noticed anyway… Try before you buy any unessecary equipment…
Edit: I will test this setup myself later, and crank up everthing to see if i have missed something earlier.
Edit 2: unescessary…? Unesescary…? whatever…;p
No issues. There were som problems and feedback at first, but it turned out to be gadget that crashed. I turned off charging just to be sure, and I didn’t hear any noise other than the usual op-1 crap…
Great!
Thanks for taking the time to try this
So now I need an audio interface, that Roland one it’s not bad, the H6 it’s too much atm.
Ok,
I just received my new iPad
What apps are absolutely to have?
And which play well with the op-1?
In a GAS attack I just bought Samplr and Patterning

Haha! Well it depends. I suck at syncing stuff and is more of a producer than live artist. Korg Gadget and Korg module is of course must haves. Gadget is a full fledged DAW on its own, and setting up loops to use on tape is cool. If you’re planning on the audio interface, sugarbytes turnado, is a pretty capable multieffect processor. I’ve had much fun hooking my Nord Piano to this. Oh, and crystalline reverb app. What op-1 is sorely lacking is a good reverb. I love big shimmering reverbs and this is the best ive found in iOS. Tabletop is worth checking out. Its free with IAP, but the enviroment is cool, and you can run audio inputs through it, and get sidechain compression and stuff.
Not sure if mentioned yet but ModStep is a good sequencing type app. Sampler also…
Is there a way of using the Ipad as a massive sample library to feed the op-1? So I would use something like audioshare with all my one hit samples and then be able to create aif kits to transfer to the OP-1 from the ipad??!

anyone feel free to correct me, but since the ipad can’t mount the OP-1 in disk mode, the short answer is no.
By recording your one hits to a 12 second sample in any iOS-DAW, you can then sample it to drum on the op-1. This will require you to fine adjust each sample to the keys afterward. This would kill my workflow and creativity… Make a drumloop in app “X” and record the loop directly to tape! I’ve been using “drummer” in GarageBand iOS lately, to kickstart song ideas with nice randomized patterns with fills and all.
