If you connect you XY to a computer, it shows the serial number of the connected machine.
On Drum tracks, lets say I have laid down Kick and Snare. I understand if I press the snare key + the record button, I can see only the Snare hits on the sequencer. But is there a way to JUST have that view without pressing multiple keys. Basically, I press Kick, it shows where my Kicks are, I press Snare, it shows only Snare sequence. I feel that would be a big plus and EZBOT tries to explain it, but I did not understand how to. Anybody knows that. Hope I am making sense
Hey @He-Man
Thanks for the info about the serial number. I totally understand your question about seeing only the drum hits you want to see on the sequencer steps. I don’t have an answer. I don’t know why it’s a double button press. Did you see an explanation about it somewhere?
@davd I haven’t been able to send CCs out from the OP-XY. I know about the external instrument and the MIDI out track, but I’m missing something important. I know it’s user error at this point, I can’t wrap my head around it. The TE manuals are minimal and not always much help to me.
Tomorrow I’m going to connect the OP-XY to something other than the OP-1f to see if that makes things clearer to me.
Thanks for your reply. This video talks about it at 18:18
I guess i didn’t post the video: https://www.youtube.com/live/mBHKm2M-QLU?si=ae-1f1WMzjq_U6tF
I haven’t been any way to do what you want yet, would be nice though.
would love to know more about what midi CC’s the XY responds to
AMAZING!!!
Also I tried sending some of my favorite OP-Z CCs and, at least when I tested it, sending 0-15 on Ch 1 to CC 102 changed the active track to Inst/Aux 1-8.
I think I can help! There are two main settings to check and they’re in different spots:
- OP-XY’s global MIDI settings - hit COM, press M1 to open the System menu, scroll to MIDI, and make sure “Other” is set to Out or Both, not In/Off.
- OP-XY’s settings for the attached device - hit COM, press M3 to open the Devices menu, scroll to the device, and make sure Other is Out/Both and not In/Off
If you’re connecting it to OP-1f you’re either using BLE or USB, but if you’re using TRS MIDI you’ll also want to hit COM and turn the third encoder to set the multi-out port to MIDI.
Hi opsr. I have got MIDI cc to send out a value when you turn the encoder value for the that cc. What I haven’t been able to do is to get the MIDI LFO to change this cc value…The MIDI LFO even looks like it from a synth engine not from what you would expect from a MIDI LFO
awwww yea thanks dude
@Tarekith Wow, thank you!
@jtswearingen Thanks, I will retry this afternoon.
@davd I was trying to send CCs from the sequencer track. I haven’t yet got anything working. I’m going to start fresh today, re-read the manual, check my settings etc.
I appreciate all the help in here.
“Question regarding the sequencing: on the OP-Z it was possible to shift the entire sequence back and forth step-by-step (I think it was the track button and the + / - buttons - I don’t think this was documented in the OP-Z guide). I don’t think this is possible on the OP-XY (yet?). Can anyone confirm, or is there some undocumented button combination?”
Yes, this would be in my opinion important.
My workflow often goes just randomly generating arpeggios, loops and stuff… until I find something nice. But at that moment, the 1 is not anymore there where the OP-XY think it is.
So in OP_z you could shift the entire track back and forth to place the 1 on the right spot.
This was also for example for the percussion track to get some different feel if you got bored, or otherwise just trying to find a good groove.
I hope this feature will be added in the future to the XY.
Otherwise, there are a zillion improvements compared to the op-z, so I can live with it… but maybe Santa could add this feature…
1.09 firmware seems to have lost the ability to record per-track punch-in effects - i.e. when you’re on a drum or instrument track and use shift with the keys while holding record to send those to the punch-in track. There are a few in there that don’t exist on the global punch in track, like Follow, which makes all the instruments or drums mimic the current voice in unison. They can still be manually performed but I could have sworn it was behaving like the op-z before, recording those to the global track.
Strange, it’s behaved exactly like this for me on FW 1.0.9: all individual track punch-in FX are recorded to Aux track 2 (on which you can add step components).
One big difference is it doesn’t seem to respond to incoming MIDI the same way but I haven’t tested that out a ton yet.
You can configure which tracks are affected by the brain, but tracks 1 and 2 are off by default.
Go to Aux track 1 (brain), hit M2, and toggle the tracks on by turning their respective encoders. You switch which 4 are active by clicking any encoder.
Thanks for confirming that - I just dug in and realized I can’t punch-in with the shift and the record button, as that’s the XY’s undo! Setting it to record mode first and punching in while it runs works well.
Also - It’s so awesome to be able to use step components on the punch-in track now, something that wasn’t possible on the Z.
If I’m listening to a pattern and the kick is what is showing on the sequencer, then I hold down the snare key and tap one of the steps, I get a view of only the snare for as long as I hold the snare key down. But I have to tap the step again to erase the note I just tapped in. Not generally easier than holding two buttons, but it does make it easier if the drum I’m trying to sequence is near the top of the keyboard.
Anyone else has issues with the brain track beeing too late?
So I have a basic chord on step 1 of track 4.
Slowed down the brain track to track scale 4.
Then changing the notes of the brain track on step 1, 5, 9, 13 to get the chord of track 4 transposed.
The transpose step of brain fires the same time as the chord and thus not getting the transpose message in time. The transpose takes place on the next step.
A workaround is to set quantisation of brain track to 0 and shift the brain steps to the left. But would be nice if it would work out of the box.
Anyone knows if there is/will be multitrack stem export on XY?
