It has been years since I looked at Reason, but the software now includes what it refers to as “Players” which are basically generative MIDI VSTs. As someone with limited piano-playing ability these have been pretty inspiring to get ideas going on the OP-1 and OP-Z.
The workflow is basically running Reason Rack as a VST in Ableton, and then sending the MIDI to the OP-1/OP-Z.
Currently Reason Studios is running a sale that includes their 5 player devices for free with the purchase of Reason 12. You can also try them out if you sign up for their monthly subscription, but I plan on cancelling once I decide if it is worth purchasing the software, since I’m only really interested in the Player devices and not the rest of the platform.
The devices can do things like generate baselines, chord progressions and drum patterns. I currently run Ableton as my main DAW but I’m not aware of any similar plugins. Anyone else here been using generative VSTs with their TE devices? If so which ones?
