Sync question

Hi, I’m new here and new to OP-1 world. I want to know will the OP-1 sync up with say an Electribe or Volca without any extra gear? Or do I need a clock device?

Thanks

It can act as MIDI master or slave but over USB. You therefore need a computer to act as go-between or alternatively use a USB Midi host device such as that produced by Kenton

Cool thanks. What would be the cheapest that could inter-connect say the OP-1, a Volca and an iPad?

Appreciated.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/141490984910 The OG iConnectmidi. I would snag that one, because they are hard to come by since they’ve been discontinued.

Hi there ! Does someone know if theses cables works with the OP-1 ?
http://www.amazon.com/SANOXY-Cable-Converter-Keyboard-Window/dp/B0017H4EBG
With USB<>miniUSB

Or this one alone :http://www.amazon.com/CABLE-MUSIC-KEYBOARD-ADAPTER-CONVERTER/dp/B00KZD55L6/ref=sr_1_19?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1417516127&sr=1-19&keywords=usb+to+midi

This should be great (and CHEAP) !

Won’t work.

Apple CCK (for USB) and then use one of those cheap midi/usb ports as listed above.

@GrainBastard Why won’t it work ?

@quarantequatre the device (like most) needs a USB Midi Host to work. this is what the apple CCK does, the ICM, kenton, oplab, etc.

w/o the host, the devices don't know how to communicate w/ each other.

Would I still need the Apple CCK even if I got this? > https://iconnectivity.com/iConnectMIDI2plus. Seems to come with some cables.

u don't need the CCK if u get one of the standalone host boxes.

just beware that the ICM 2+ does not have the USB MIDI Host functionality for the OP1

u need the OG one or the 4+ to get that.

i use the kenton myself. or CCK straight to OP1 when using together w/ the ipad.

@docshermsticks > Thx for explanation. Do you think I can use my soundcard instead of a standalone midi host ? (it’s a Scarlett 18i6)

@hudson @quarantequatre that og Iconnectmidi I listed above is still at $64. Maybe put it on your watch list? They are seriously hard to come by, let alone at that price. If you end wanting to expand on more connects with other gear on the long run, I’d strongly suggest the og iconnectmidi.

In the meantime, you can play with the Monotribe synckontrol app -I’ve rigged my OP-1 to my iPad via CCK and then headphone cable out on the iPad to a Volca beats. It’s quick and dirty, but it’s worth a go since e app is free

Earlier this year, I recall this setup to work:

Belkin 4 port usb hub --> CCK --> iPad Air.
From there you can plug in the op-1 and the volca beats with one of those usb to midi cable adapters. I’ve bought one of those cheap ones myself, and tbh they have sync issues. In my experience this works better http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000JLU26W/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o04_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
If someone needs me to test this rig, I can do it sometime this week.

So to clarify, if I want to sync my OP-1 with the new Korg electribe, just so they run in time. I need an iconnectmidi or kenton usb host?

Both will work, but the kenton is usually priced high from what I’ve seen.

Here in the US, the Electribes aren’t available to us yet

I was thiking the electribe and op-1 would be a match made in heaven, and it can be the ultimate portable workstation.

Got the Same thought @Kites
And I was hoping that a simple MIDI<>USB cable could work …

Tonight I will try to sync my LXR with the OP-1 without a kenton etc. The sonic-potions manual says you can route from usb to midi out and the other way around. That would be fantastic!
