Sync question

@quarantequatre how do you like your electribe? Does it have a lot of cool interesting and unique sounds?

@mixrasta just with a midi to usb cable ?
@Kites I don’t have the electribe for now…even the op-1 (I’ve just ordered it and waiting to be delivered ^^). But the electribe seems nice, check some vids on the web

This morning I looked at the LXR and got reminded that I wanted to check this, yes only with the midi and usb cable. Let you know…@quarantequatre

Should be so nice ! (calling back @grainbastard)

Just to clarify, think of the OP-1 as a usb device, like a usb flash drive. A usb flash drive cannot be used to ‘host’ other usb flash drives, just as the OP-1 cannot host other usb devices.

Without some kind of ‘computer’ capable of being a usb host (iPad for example) then you will need one of the Kenton boxes, iConnect or OP-Lab etc.

If you have an iPad then using the CCK is just one option. It’s a popular one though because of the obvious portable link of the two devices.

Op-1 is able to send midi signals via USB port ?

If yes, I don’t see why it shouldn’t work.

Btw, it didn’t work with the LXR because I couldn’t get a mini usb to big square usb cable, and with hub you’ll need a comp. Maybe I can find sth online.

Are you searching something like that @mixrasta ?

Yes, I watched these, but I found and need this one:

I also asked on the sonic-potions forum if that akes sense at all, usb is tricky, no response so far…

Op-1 is able to send midi signals via USB port ?
If yes, I don't see why it shouldn't work.

It does but my explaination shows why it won’t work.

Honestly I wish it was as simple as you want but unfortunately it is not like that.

THE OP-1 IS NOT A USB HOST!!!

Yes! and my lxr probably neither, people and also @sparky told me on the sonic-potions forum. : (

So Midi <> Midi no needs any Host, but USB <> Midi needs an USB host ? Shit :frowning:

MIDI and USB are both protocols. MIDI to MIDI speaks the same language. MIDI -> USB -> USB -> MIDI means that the USB devices need to be cooperating. Since USB is buss (that’s the B) based, then there needs to be something (a host) telling all the connected devices whose turn it is to talk and who they are talking to.

Thx for the explanation GCF. Do you know if USB Host without alimentation exists ?

I think that is the importance of the iConnect4Midi, OpLab, Kenton, and other devices for hosting USB devices. These devices all handle the hosting and routing of the USB-MIDI data. Another option would be a Raspberry Pi or other small Arduino like USB-host device with proper software/coding.

And the new Roland DBX thing… but costs 350.

SBX-1 sync box I mean
