Tape glitch on OP-XY when receiving external MIDI clock

I noticed a jarring, infrequent glitch on the OP-XY tape track when receiving MIDI clock from an OP-1 Field. But after some further digging I noticed this happening when receiving MIDI from any device, also when the XY is running just by itself.

Here’s a video of this happening. There’s a boring little two track sequence, and trigs on all the tape track steps. Be warned and don’t turn up your volume too loud! It’s further amplified by the reverb on the tape track.

It can be reproduced quite easily, in my case at least: just send an external clock to the XY and put some trigs on the tape track. You don’t even need to send actual audio to the tape track, I’ve heard this happening when all channels sending audio into the tape were set to 0.

Field is on 1.7.2, XY is on 1.1.33.

I found similar and sent in a bug report/video a couple of months ago. Parameter locking pitch changes in the tape track seem to make it worse. It happens with both USB and Din MIDI. Another bug report might help speed up getting this fixed if more people experience and report it…

I can also confirm it’s gone on firmware 1.1.4, that’s what I’ve been using the longest. After that I went up to 1.1.33 rather quickly, so any of the inbetween releases might have caused this. I’ll do some further investigation to possibly narrow it down.

Where is firmware 1.1.4 firmware available? Love to have this fixed!

You can find it here: https://teenage.engineering/_software/op-xy/opxy_firmware_1_1_4.tfw

For me, I didn’t notice any project no longer working after going from 1.1.33 back to 1.1.4, but your mileage may vary.

Also, the glitch is present on 1.1.15, which is one version up from 1.1.4. That was a huge release, so this issue might have just slipped through unnoticed.

Ah I see, this bug has been introduced in newer versions of the OS…hope it gets fixed for the new/later versions
