The Modular Thread

Decided to post more videos in 2017 (sorry folks!). This is my first eurorack video, need to find a better angle for next time.

Happy new year wigglers and operators!

@ghostly606 Where is the OP-1??

@ghostly606 Where is the OP-1??

Sold! Keybed went last year and didn’t want to spend money to get it fixed. Like most people who sell I miss it greatly and it’s on my wishlist for 2017!

I sold mine too, bought one again a couple of weeks ago. Tryin to control my modular with it, via the endorphin.es Shuttle Control. Still figuring out how it all works together…

@Zenser let us know how the OP-1 works with Shuttle Control when you get a chance. I’ve been curious about that myself.

Flick through the slideshow until you get to the video and click play.

LOTS of modular goodness!

@jAKEjAPAN the shuttle control and the OP-1 work well together as fare as I got. Because I am more a beginner and the shuttle control has so much to offer, what you can do with it. The Editor works fine and once you got the right software to get it from your PC/MAC to the shuttle control it is supereasy. So much to explore…so less time…

My Bastl Kastle DIY kit arrived this morning and was promptly assembled. It’s like a less melodic o-Coast and sounds awesome, especially through effects. Plays very nicely with other modular gear too. I’d imagine would team up very nicely with the OP1.

Will maybe do a video tomorrow.

I got a Bastl Kastle for xmAs. It’s very therapeutic plugging and unplugging and noodling around. Definitely want an 0 coast now.

Here’s my as promised Bastl Kastle demo:

Thinking about getting another!

^ Really cool little box. You’ve got some great sounds coming out of it, nice to see it in a eurorack context as well.

I have a Kastle coming up also, thanks for the vid @ghostly606! Looking forward hooking it up to my Olegtron 4060.

@ghostly606 nice collection of modules you’ve got there now! What’s all you got?

Thanks @spacetravelmadeeasy! You can check out my rack on Modular Grid, supplemented by the eurorack friendly 0-Coast, Bastl Kastl, Korg SQ1 sequencer and Microbrute:

https://www.modulargrid.net/e/racks/view/379322 (Double Mix sat waiting to be soldered)

Unfortunately due to a cock up on my part I can't use the middle row of my rack until I buy different rails but still a long way off filling up 2 x 104HP. I've basically sold my Monomachine, SH201, piano, Volcas, Pocket Operators, digital mixer, midi controllers and a couple of cheap rack synths to fund this folly. :D

A nice mix there.

How do you find Radio? Is it a bit TOO random?

I’ve got the Bastl GrandPA and I’d like another sample based module to do drums (or sometimes samples). I’m thinking of opting for a Erica Pico Drums (or two).

I’d actually LOVE the whole PICO system 1 haha.

I love the Radio, it’s a great ideas generator, run an LFO to the start and a rhythmic clock to the reset and tweak the start knob, clock tempo or station until you get a loop you like and build everything around that.

There is also a way to trigger each sample and not having them free running (i.e. like a sampler) but where’s the fun in that? :smiley:

This is just to show the concept. The SV-1 usually sounds way nicer than in this video :wink:

@masterofstuff124 I have a Keystep that I can connect straight to the modular, so the OP-1 thing was just for shits and giggles. Once my rig is big enough it should (mostly) play itself, I’m with you on that.

HEY @crudeoperator i’m trying to send clock from my op-1 to my pittsburgh sequncer, can you explain a bit more the audio files you used in the drumkit/ share them. can i/ should i send clock into an oscillator or an adsr first?

Here is a nice example of OP-1 and Modular playing together…

@curdledgurled for clock only the easiest option to hook them up directly would be the pony sync on the new OS. You might need a stereo breakout/dj splitter cable to separate the audio and clock signal. If you’re not on the new OS you could emulate it by playing a very loud click noise on a hard panned tape track and pan your regular audio the other way.

What I’ve done in the video is just a crude hack (with a rim shot sample I think). If you want to use the OP-1 as a sequencer for your modular you will be better off interfacing it through a USB Midi converter. I’m using my iPad as a USB host to send Midi from my OP-1 to a Beat Step Pro which in turn converts it to either CV and gate and clock or DIN Midi which I can feed directly into the Life Forms.

ok, thanks, i will try that out.
