Hello My Op friends!
i have the OP1 Field & i m so happy for this!
a question, about the OP Xy!
Let’s say, i would like to record a melody for a full song, from an external synth i have! Not to sample it, just to write a track in to the Op Xy! Could i? it isn’t so important, just ask!
thanks!!
Theo
I am not 100% sure if I understand what you are trying to achieve, but it sounds as you would like to record the midi notes and this is possible. You connect a midi keyboard to the OPXY (you can do this via USB) and then record it to a track. You can do this by using track 11 (its a midi track) and then you can always play an external synth with it … its actually quiet easy … if this is what you would liek to achieve
really thanks for your reply!
and now the big question!!!
i would like to make a , full, linear song, not paatern based, with XY sounds!
can i? or i work only with scenes?
thanks again!
well, you can of course use external equipment to sequenze the XY. That would work, Bu I guess thats not your question.
In the XY itself I would say that is not really possible … its a sequencer und thus pattern based.
There is a small workaround that maybe could work … depending on what you want to achieve.
You can change the length of a pattern to 64 bars. So you could record 64 bars without quantization … but you wouldn’t be able to change all of the played notes later. I think if you want to record full linear songs, then you should think about the Op1f. The strength of the opxy is that it is pattern based.
Thanks so much!
Yes, to create a full length song i asked!
I have the OP1 Field!!!
i thought that, the OP-XY was the Next workstation, (because my opinion is that OP1 FIELD is a workstation)! i love this so much! and the reason o love it, is this… Tape based idea, i want!
and Please T.E! don’t leave from this way!!!
Theo
I understand Then I guess the OP XY is not what you need. Its a pattern based sequencer. I really like it, but I think the synths in the OP1 Field are better, so no need for you to buy this
Have fun with the Op1 Field
Just a thought. But since you already have the field, perhaps you can sync the field to the xy via USB-C and use the xy for patterns as needed, but also use the field tape for the linear live performance on top. You could connect the xy to the field via 3.5mm line input and use the field to hear both playing at the same time. I think this would provide the best of both worlds, with the xy filling in the sequencing duties lacking on the field.
Really thanks for your reply!
your reply, is one of these, that it’s so easy for someone to be thought but, in the same time not!!!
for this reason, forums are here!!!
i love all benefits OPXY gives! actually i love the company, makes all products i would like to have and, actualy to create, a reality!
So Yes! this is an answer , puts the thread in a different point, and gives the Game changer- solution!!!
T&E has to be supported, they are the definition of enovation!
+… they Support our creativity with there instruments!!!
My solution to using both (plus my OP-Z) was to get that little TX-6 mixer. It is a marvel of engineering and simply works. It does a whole lot of stuff that I will probably never use, but the fact that I can connect a USB flash drive and record tunes did it for me. You can still connect USB to USB between devices for clock if needed. The TX-6 comes with its own USB C to USB C cable too.
Now that I have gone this far into TE’s eco-system, I may be tempted by the CM-15 mic and the TP-7 recorder at some point, though my understanding is that these are really aimed at podcasters, which I am not (at least for now).

Tony, as you may understand, i’m fan of analog, but please note! with all the plusses digital gives!!!
also, i believe that, buttons, hardware, the actual real thing, all these give to the musician the workflow, but also and the inspiration needed to be inside the “environment” to a full music production, despite the fact if he/she is professional or not.
About Tx6, grade work also!
but… Teenage Engineering TP-7 would feet more to my needs!
Note! i’ve the Field! and this point of my post is a grade chance to say to the T&E Team, please! don’t stop the evolution of this Workstation!
listen to me!!!
it’s a unique! And this, of course and all others, count!
i maybe need a tutorial from experts there, to navigate to few menus of the instrument, (almost blind user here)! i hope to have it when i’ll buy it!!!
keep in touch and any comment grate to be written!
the thread is going perfect!!!
and, it gives solutions!!!
ps. Is it totally impossible, to record with the quant… On, more than let’s say 32 bars in OP-XY?
The maximum length of a pattern on the op-xy is 4 measures (bars). However, track scale is suppose to greatly increase this, though I need to dig in a bit more to fully understand the concept since what track scale does (as I understand it) is to increase the length of a step. The default step length is a sixteenth note, which then puts 16 steps to a bar. Increasing the length to, say, a quarter note, should (I would think, but may be wrong on the op-xy) mean that there are now 4 steps to a bar. So I don’t know how that would increase the number of bars available.
Tony
ok!
this is an issue for me!!!
i would like to point, to answer to a x post, “it has a sequencer, so it “writes” only patterns”, my Yamaha Moxf has sequencer, but it has and a full-length song feature. So the 1, isn’t against to other!
just imagine how powerfull, more powerful, this gear will be! i don’t think that it’s so difficult to be added with a shortcat!
but… Hei! we have and the OP1 FIELD!!! we can’t forget this!!!
so, all fine!!!
With step length set to 16 you can get the equivalent of 64 bars per track. Still can only record up to 120 notes per track in a pattern though, something to keep in mind.
The 120 notes per pattern seems like such an unnecessary limitation. There must be somethign I’m missing.
