I was watching my friends stream on YT of the XY mainly, but he also works with the OP-1F
While he went through a lot of the synths and I think they are fantastic, it made me look again at some of the synths on the op-1f and they are incredible…I mean even just working with them on the OLED is fun to see what you’ll get but …
Just like these unique and semi-hybrid engines, the fx from TE are the best I’ve ever seen or heard anywhere. I am a huge sugarbytes fan and to me TE is like the hardware version. Their combos are odd but give the most incredible results . I’m sure the xy has very similarly awesome fx as the op-1f
Is it is just me or do you also find TE to be quite unique in the world of music? Like Korg, Roland, Arturia, all give you high quality synths and stuff, but even Elektron and synthstrom don’t have what TE does, definitely not in form ,design or , or portability…and I’m not really a “synth guy” to speak knowledgeably in the way my friends can but I have seen enough to think, hey, I get why the op-1 only has one fx, I get why there is only one LFO, I get why you only need this or that; because each element is so multilayered (btw did I see someone say the XY does 2 send fx and op1F does insert fx or something?)
What are you favorite synth engines ?
What are you favorite fx?
I think what I really like is not so much a particular fx or synth but the fact that I can very easily tinker with any of them and get sounds that are pleasant or interesting (at least to me!). That’s something I’ve never managed to do with electronic tools (Alchemy on Logic Pro, that kind of thing) before getting my OP-1 field.
Answering your question though, my favourite combo is Dimension + the LFO linked to the accelerometer as some sort of mod wheel or "theremin stuff”. It’s so much fun.
i think dr. wave is my most used
but cluster is my personal favorite
also “moonweed” is my favorite starting point for some unknown reason
even if i dont stick w/ the engine or anything close to the original sound
its my good luck charm or something for making sounds
punch and phone are my fav fx’s
nitro prolly the most used or delay
finger is my fav seqr
on the other hand,
sometimes i try to use the things i use the least and see what i can come up w/
like grid, tombola, etc.
its a good way to learn new things
oh and can’t forget the hidden filter fx but i guess thats an OG thing
I think the synths and effects are quite good. They are pretty quirky though which can be either good or bad, depending on what you are trying to do.
I do wish they had another page for LFOs. I do feel like having to sacrifice an LFO when you want to use the envelope to module something is too much of a limitation; especially with the dimension synth. Some of the other synths it’s not as big of a deal since they seem to have their own envelope or LFO.
I don’t have a specific favorite, but I like the overall design of how engines and effects on OP-1 work. The sonic palette of the device (especially Field) is huge, while the interface to control it all is pretty simple. That’s the main reason I bought OP-1.
i can never decide. i love dr wave for leads and i love cluster for keyboard sounds. but very often i go back to the dimension synth with phone effect. its a nice combo that one.
OG OP-1 has a multifilter effect with several (12, I think) models you can gradually switch between. That FX also has a drive setting, which can amplify and distort sound.
It’s one of the best effects on OP-1, but for some reason you can’t access it from the menu. You have to make a patch with this FX already active. Then you can change other settings of that patch, thus making new patches with the effect.
This was basically discovered by accident.
We still have no idea why the effect is not accessible from the main menu.
yes yes its awesome and very versatile
u can also unlock it (and the hidden synth iter)
w. the custom firmware repacker
which makes it available in the menus like any other thing
