Authentic bass guitar sound

Hello all - I am a newbie to op1 and really to music production as a whole. I want to make some dub-reggae style beats and songs. The drum kit on op1 seems perfect for this, but I’m not able to find a nice deep, authentic bass guitar sound. Is this possible on the op-1, or am I expecting too much of a digital synthesizer? I’ve been through most/all of the preset sound types in the synthesizer, and can’t really find what I’m looking for. Greatly appreciated if you have some suggestions which don’t involve me buying a bass guitar and learning to play it. Thanks!

Try sampling a bass into the synth sampler. There is no time stretch so the lower notes will sound slowed down.

You could also just use a DAW for the bass parts…no rule that says the OP-1 has to do all the work : P

On the OP-1 itself, try DSynth or String. Won’t sound exactly like an electric bass BUT will have a personality all its own…push dub-reggae into new territory!

I used the Fender P-Bass sample from op1essentials (sample based) for electric bass sounds. I reckon it’s worth 2 euros!

You may want to use the Punch FX to get big bass and filter the treble artefacts that you got form pitching down…

If you do go the sampling route you might want to use drum sample engine instead of synth sample. Depending on the length of your bass note you might be able to multisample 4 or 5 notes and use pitch to fill in the gaps. Less of the chipmunk and artifacts stuff. Can’t remember if drum sample playback editing has the same loop points/release etc options as synth tho. When it comes to stuff like this i wish OP didn’t have so small a sample length limit per patch, it would be perfect little multisample/rompler box. There are workarounds to get you close with most things tho.

That’s a great idea, I’m going to try that
