Battle 46: I Like Your Style

Cool track, @TiboDzi! I thought of Boards of Canada when I heard it!

@lorddankmemeth: nice vibes here! Reminds me of Flying Lotus.

@Zach_Lambert I love BoC but no it s something else, I m really not sure it can be found due to the poor pastiche I made. Anyway I m proud of my drawing :))

I think it sounds more like Amon Tobin, the newer stuff… Nice!

@Zach_Lambert same as tibo i love flylo but its not, i will say the band i pastiche’d would sing but I couldnt come with anything

Sup gang. Awesome music so far!!

Either way, I like it. Very chill.

I made a track following the rules, but being the host of this battle, it doesn’t count as an entry.

Reminder that you have one week to get your entries in! It’s looking like there probably wont be a deadline extension this time

Haha, @borden this is one hilariously awesome track! Kraftwerk? Or Air? Wicked anyways!

I think the host’s entries of the last two battles were counted as normal entries, too, so why change that again? Would be OK for me at least.

Nope, not Kraftwerk or Air. Keep trying!

I hesitate to let the host enter the battle because they have a pretty big advantage in that they have advance knowledge of the rules. Also they could set rules that play into their strengths. Most importantly I think it wouldn’t be very fun if the same person was setting the rules month after month. When there were 3 hosts, it diffused those advantages so that was ok.

Daft Punk maybe…

Hi All

Long time lurker, first time poster! Thank you all for all the great information in the group - really inspires my OP1 tweakage…
@borden - You piece is a spot on pastiche of Tobacco / Black Moth Super Rainbow. I got it within a bar or two - great job - and great track!

There we have it! I was going for Thom Fec of Tobacco / BMSR. I’m glad somebody was able to figure it out.

Looking forward to hearing more from you, @Verslab

@borden great work; i really enjoyed this. i’ve never listened to Tobacco or BMSR before but I think I’ll check them out.

I love the discovery of new artists from this battle, I’d never heard of Apparat or BMSR before!

Greats tracks already !
@millbastard : me too. Great discoveries
@mixrasta : it s not Amon Tobin but thanks for the comparaison

@borden its not AIR but i tried to look up air and i wasnt sure which one you were referring to

Ran out of God damn time. Bloody work. I was halfway through a poor facsimile of a Harold Faltermeyer track. In a ‘running man’ and ‘shootout scene’ stylez

Borden I love the track

What did u use to vocode ur vox?

2 more days, people!

I used an eletcro-harmonix voice box with my trusty korg mono/poly as the carrier. I was worried the vocoder would be a little chintzy, but it turned out to be really good. That said, I don’t really know how to use it. Some of the vowel sounds make me cringe when re-listening to the song, probably because of either the formant settings or my synth patch. Live and learn.

I’m happy to have introduced Tobacco to some people here! He’s easily in my top 5 favorite synthesizerists. Dandelion Gum and Maniac Meat are my favorite albums if y’all are looking for jumping off points.

This one might be a bit too obvious.

Haha, oh man nice! Speak & Spell era Depeche Mode, no question. I love the break down two minutes in (and the rest). Extra props for the pols-voice-looking artwork.

heyyy, so I’m extremely new (like a few days old new) and I’ve been wanting to join this community to help me learn more about the wonderful tool that is the OP-1 that I just purchased recently.

I’ve been really loving this instrument and all that it offers, and feel that joining the battles is one of the best ways to learn more about how to practice with it.

I kinda messed up and dropped this track into Ableton to arrange, but I thought I’d share my work regardless because I figured you’re all kind and receptive to newbies.

here’s the private link.
