Hi guys,
This morning is crisp and sunny in London and I am daydreaming about busting out the OP-1 and play some beats at nice and busy East London street corner in a Damu the fudgemunk-style and see what happens (instead I went to work to stare at a screen and solve non-issues, obviously).
Anyone on this forum is using a battery powered amp with the OP-1?
Good way to extend portability of our machines anywhere possible
Cheers!
Been eyeing on the roland cube street for a while…
Continuing on this idea, i’d be even better to do this with fellow OP-1 beat makers… much less intimidating.
By the way when do we meet, Londoners??
Roland cube does not sound great IMHO, I bought one a few years back and it does not handle bass very well, probably better for guitar than synths. One that I have been very interested in is this http://i.korg.com/mma130
I will have a look at this! Thanks for the recommendation.
I agree, the cube is a good portable amp but the EQ curve is more guitar focused. Running a volca keys through it does sound pretty good but I wasn’t so keen with the OP-1. The MMA130 is much more neutral and would fair a lot better.
Check out the little blackstar guitar amp. Batteries last for weeks and that thing is flippin loud (and clear)!
There are also plenty of no name portable PA systems on ebay, they often have remote, sd/usb recorder and playback and the couple that I tried actually sounded ok, prices from £60-£150 think the brand was adastra or something similar.
Super, I had no idea about all of those. Thanks. What do you guys think of the building site speaker ones? Makita, etc?
I like the Yamaha TH5R, you can use it plugged in and battery powered, and it got rave reviews. You can also use a computer to change the amp modeling.
This summer I used two Danelectro Honeytones - very loud (for this small thing) and long battery life, but suitable just for guitar, maybe for Stylophone, because it has no bottom… Then I tried QTX QR15PA, it was perfect, but not so portable. So now I am thinking about Roland Mobile BA or Samson Escape.
what about a portable speaker type jawn?
Thanks for the answers guys. The samson escape looks like a good option.
I have a Bose mini soundlink as well as a regular soundlink but I can’t imagine this slice through a busy london street, well worth trying though!
Thanks again everyone.
what about a portable speaker type jawn?I've had my bose sound link mini for mad years. bass response is great. gets plenty loud but still clear. not sure if it would be loud enough for a really noisy & busy street but i've rocked a street corner or park w/ it and the sound really travels.only mention it because its way more portable and convenient than a mobile PA, and they might sound just as good or better.
Actually I take that back, just saw a youtube review of a guy doing a test of the mini soundlink with a highway nearby and that thing blasts! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hca2j-aAsfA
Sounds like I’m all sorted out. Also it might help to put is next to a surface that reflects the sound.
@lefilou please leave your own feelings on the subject, this subject is what prevent me of jamming with friends in the park on summers

I have a Roland KC-110 and love it.
Looks rugged as hell. Nice suggestion!

TY for the poke my friend
Personnaly, I hesitated a lot between the bose and the UE Boom (last summer), and I’ve choosen the UE boom for its strengh in every conditions ^^.
UE Boom is very very nice and lifeproof ! I love it !

I got the Mega Boom and that thing packs a serious punch! It’s a bit bigger than the regular Boom though but I still find it pretty portable.
