Can't record external midi input into the sequencer (wtf)

I have 20 years old gear that can do this.

I’m a composer and I consider myself quite an advanced OP_XY user.
The op-xy is recieving midi and the sound engine it’s sounding beautifully, but when I press for record, No notes are printed into the OP-XY step sequencer, in any way … I should be missing something but I checked ALL the midi settings, and no luck.

HELP !

Hmm, two things come to mind:

  1. What channel is the active track set to on the XY? I got mixed up the other day and forgot that I changed the active track from Ch 15 to another channel temporarily, but when my controller sent notes to Ch 15 I’d still hear sound because FX1 triggers the last track played.
  2. Does the track you’re recording to already have recorded notes on it? For some reason there’s a 120-note limit per track right now on the XY.

I have oxi one on channel one, op-xy recieving perfectly on channel 1. Not recording any notes, I reviewed carefully all the midi settings, and it doesn’t print the notes in the op-xy step sequencer.
So frustating.

But the most frustating thing it’s not being able to export stems for mixing. it’s a shame because I love it for compose my techno tracks, but I cannot publish my songs because I cannot eq, compress the stems in my daw. Very frustating, hope TE listen to the users and implement this asap.

Or at least to pick multi-output soundcards, like the mpc-one.

Also when I change patterns , the brain makes weird stuff with the harmony.

For the price, they should listen the users and stop designing furniture, love the op-xy, I hate the lazyness and snob like attitude of the developers.

Half baked.

I don’t have an OXI, but I did it several times in Ableton and the OP-XY’s step sequencer starts recording when playback is triggered — as long as ‘arm recording’ is enabled. Also, make sure that the OXI is set to ‘transport Send’ and the OP-XY to ‘clock, notes Receive’

I’m not able to replicate the issue you described and I asked a specific question to try to help that you did not answer, so I’m really confused by the tone of your response.

Could you please complete the following steps to answer my question?

  1. Press COM
  2. Press M1 to enter the System menu
  3. Use the first encoder to scroll to MIDI
  4. Tell me what “active track ch.” is set to

While you’re there, check if MIDI echo is on—you might be experiencing a feedback loop.

I’d probably love a multitrack export feature, but all the end-of-chain features on the XY don’t scream “we designed this for recording individual tracks” to me.

Also it’s kinda surprising to read someone frame their desire for a feature as the developers being snobby and lazy.

Hi @jtswearingen . Happy to have found this old thread.

my project for today is to record a midi phrase from my DAW (Reaper, Mac) into the OP-XY sequencer. I’ll check the COM setting mentioned above and proceed from there.

Rick

Amazingly simple for me!
op-xy (usb) → MacBook Pro
Set COM→M1→MIDI→Active Track ch. to 1
Press Record+Play to arm op-xy for recording
Send midi and clock from Reaper to op-xy

The sequence on track 1 that got recorded is exactly the same as the midi in my DAW.

I thought this would be difficult, but for me it was pretty easy.

As a bonus, if I record from the Arranger view I can record multiple midi items from my DAW onto multiple patterns on the same track.
