Does anyone who owns the CM-15 mic have any feedback about it after using it? I’m interested in possibly getting one. Thanks!
There are two distinct aspects, to my mind.
It’s a little limiting if you look at pure mic performance. No switchable patterns, no low-end roll-off, etc, that you might find on other condenser mics. It’s pricey based on pure mic performance.
However, it’s the Field aspect that makes it interesting. It’s got a built-in battery, which makes it uniquely compatible with non-phantom power devices like the TX-6 or an OP-1 — or your phone, for that matter. If you wanted to use another condenser mic with one of these, you would also need to run around with an external mic preamp that can provide 48v phantom. Good battery-powered alternatives don’t really exist, and everything else really works against portability. When I ditched both my notebook mixer and audio interface for a TX-6, I got the CM-15 soon after and I’m happy with it.
If you’re looking for the ultimate portable experience - go for it! But if it’s the mic you’re going to put in your stationary studio, there are more priceworthy alternatives.
