Cool thing I found: Sync Gameboy (original and Advance) with Pocket Operators

I found out recently that through CV sync, the sequencer “Nanoloop,” and the tracker “LSDj” can be used with the Pocket Operators using a modified cable.

Check it:

Have you actually done this, or is this just a theory?

cuz i got the cable, hooked up my gameboy and Po-16

and nothing, i cant get it to work.

can you show us?!

It works, and you can also sync with midi and the volca series. I don’t have any of the POs to try it with, but Cheapshot uses a PO-12 and nanoloop in his live sets:

Unfortunately I don’t really know how to troubleshoot the cables, but I built one myself according to the specs on the nanoloop site, and it works well for volca sync. I also built this one which is great when I want to sync it with my monomachine; the sync is very crude but when it works, it’s solid… although I see now that the latest versions of nanoloop actually support midi sync if you make the cable correctly, so the link above is redundant.

Nanoloop is a great sequencer/synth, I made an entire album with it last year and continue to use it for minimal tech stuff. Sounds really great with the volcas and POs too.

i got LSDJ and the PO-16 and i conected them via a cable i got from https://evadeanddualitymicro.bandcamp.com/merch/korg-monotribe-volca-sync-gameboy-dmg01-cable-for-nanoloop-lsdj-slave-mode

i cant get it to work, if some one could show me, it would be much appreciated!

i had mine working w/ nanoloop and PO. not sure what is going on w/ yours, not too familiar w/ LSDJ. is there any other sync modes you could try on LSDJ? seems like the pulses being sent out are not the correct timing for 1:1 sync.

but what’s that got to do with the original post?

not sure, how did you get it working with nano loop?

i plugged them in and set the sync mode on nanoloop to the proper timing configuration.

the comment from the youtube video is pertinent.

lsdj sends 12 pulses per quarter note, think the PO only needs 4 (like the volcas) -> on the downbeat of beat 2 for lsdj it has sent 12 sync pulses. those same 12 pulses make the PO think it is on beat 3.

you may need a clock divider.

also, check the sync modes on both of your POs.

also says on the bandcamp link for the cable, that the gameboy must be the slave…not sure how u have it hooked up.

Well im lost!

So much for me hoping that i could just plug it in and it working! :frowning:

thanks anyway guys!!

The Nanoloop sync cable looks simple enough the build by butchering a DMG cable and wiring it up to a 3.5mm jack.

I guess you could merge the L&R Audio from the Gameboy to one channel and have the sync on the other channel.

I have an OG Gameboy sat on my shelf looking pretty but gathering dust… Going to get a copy of Nanoloop and see what I can do with it.

Also, make sure your versions are right:

Nanoloop 1 (1.7.2+) and 2 (2.7.6+)

Nanoloop has to be the master.

ive only got nanoloop 1.6 unfortuantly.

but i have got the latest LSDJ

@mrjoshua yea it is pretty much that easy. slice it up, find your corresponding connections on the pins to wires, hook it up like the diagram. solder szzzt ready to rock

i made both analog & midi sync cables a while back.
