Custom Firmware OP-XY

Free Custom Firmware for OP-XY

My goal is to turn this device into a single powerhouse that combines features of the OP1 Field, Polyend Tracker Mini, Roland MC-101, and more.

Below are the new features I have successfully added to the OP-XY:

Vocal Tune, auto-tune for a sample. It has key and scale, pitch, reverse, trims, 4 Feel presets (Open, Subtle, Medium, Hard), and formant shift.

  1. Harmonizer, built into Vocal Tune. It adds 0, 1, or 2 backing voices in key.

  2. Scale Chord, a player that works with any sound. Pick a key, and off-scale notes snap to the nearest in-scale note. Chord mode plays a full chord from each key, with 6 shapes: triad, 7th, sus2, sus4, low 3rd, and add9.

  3. Strum, a player that strums or arpeggiates chords. It has speed, direction, humanize, and spread.

  4. Phase, a light phase-distortion synth with drive, bend, level, and color.

  5. Tape character, a send effect with wow, flutter, saturation, dust, and tone.

  6. Tape loop, a send effect that records about 6 seconds and overdubs on each pass.

Notes:

I’m hoping this helps turn an already amazing device into something even more personal, and gives everyone a few more fun nights of making music.

First, credit where it’s due. All of this is built on open-xy by etcetc000, who did the hard work of opening the OP-XY up to custom machines. My machines are additions on top of their SDK and follow its license. If you enjoy this, go support their project.

I’d also ask that we stay respectful toward Teenage Engineering. None of this means their team is lacking in effort, speed, or care. They’re building a stable instrument for a lot of people, and that takes a different kind of work than a hobby fork does.

To be upfront, I’m building this with a lot of help from AI coding tools, and it’s very much a work in progress. I try to keep every machine within the CPU and memory limits, check each build carefully before I install it, and make things feel close to native on the XY. Some of the newest machines haven’t had much time on real hardware yet, though. If you try it, back up your stock firmware first, know how to restore it, and flash at your own risk. Bug reports and ideas are very welcome.

I allowed a thread to coexist with the op1 it’s only fair but that’s it, last CFW thread! Curious to see how the CPU holds up once several of these are running together.

Curious!
