Disk mode/USB not working

My OP-1 stopped communicating with my computer. When I switch to MIDI control mode it is not recognized and nor does it mount when set to Disk Mode. Everything else works fine.

I’ve tried putting it in boot mode and testing all the functions and it says everything is fine. Also did a factory reset. I’ve also tried resetting the battery (leaving it on until it switches off and recharging it).

I’m on the latest OS.

Any ideas?

Try a different cable.

Tried a different cable and USB port. No dice.

Can you try a different computer?

Tried with my laptop but no luck.

Does “Firmware Update” work? It creates a different, smaller USB drive, where the firmware file shall go.

Nope. Just tells me to connect a usb cable even though it’s connected…

BTW, i’m actually on os #216 (the one TE provided for the beta testing) and not the official release (#218). Contacted TE, but in my experience it takes a while to get a response from them.

Is it possible it’s a hardware issue? It charges fine and passes the function test so I assumed it was one of those ‘quirks’. I that issue a while back that others have had where it won’t turn on, but it eventually sorted itself out.

Have you checked the Device Driver in Control Panel? It may be corrupted or not listed anymore. If is there uninstall it and reinstall the device driver again.

But it does charge when you connect it to your computer or laptop? If not, does it charge with a USB power supply?

To me it looks like a hardware issue. Maybe the data contacts of the USB jack do not work. Could be the connection board that needs to be replaced.

I’m on a mac, so guessing this doesn’t apply to me.

Yes, it charges fine when connected to my computer. If it is the board will I have buy one myself or will TE supply me with one? I noticed ifixit sells them and they are not cheap…

@esotericmetal Maybe check Disk Utility to see if anything shows up then?

Depends... does it still have warranty?

I had this happen and it turned out to be the USB transceiver. I worked with Teenage Engineering, and they eventually gave me a link to buy the DSP board from their website. It wasn’t terribly expensive (but not cheap either).

Checked disk utility and nothing is showing up.

I think I bought mine 2-3 yrs ago so i'm guessing it's not under warranty.

TE has a limited 1 year warranty for the original buyer. Some retailers offer a longer warranty period.
