Elektron Digitakt

Octatrack is the only Elektron that does USB key-like sample transfer. Got mine used for 800€ iirc.

Ok I have to admit I never even looked at the functions of the elektron stuff bc it’s way out of my price range. But it seems that I could get a used octatrack for about the same money as the DT with advanced over bridge options.

And oh is the OT an interesting piece of gear. After a few demos of the OT I now wonder what’s the difference to the DT except a bigger better screen and less menus and buttons what equals the aforementioned accessibility? When I’m over buying I’m a do it right

Octatrack does not support Overbridge.

Nerdily digging through!

Manual release means product release any day now!?!?

Took a quick peek at the manual – seems the MIDI sequencer is about the same as with Octatrack (or perhaps identical to the Analog 4?). There’s no phrase recording, so polyphony is just stacking notes of identical length on top of each other. That’s my impression at least. Any interesting bits people found from the manual?

I sold my Octa last winter, after coming to grips with the fact that I’m not making any music with it. It looks like the Digitakt’s not for me either! :stuck_out_tongue:

This is super exciting to me.

@jjbbllkk could you please explain a little more what that means? I am completely new to Elektron’s way of doing things (and generally sequencers).

I’m new to them too. The Digitakt will be my first device from them.
What it means to me is that a single 16 step pattern can be mutated with logic. This particular logic (conditional trigger) is pattern repeat based.
Say you have a 16 step house loop with a kick on every beat. You could then place a kick on the last 8th note and use the conditional trigger to tell the box to only play that 8th note kick drum every 4th time the pattern repeats. You’ve now just turned a stagnant loop into something with perceived phrasing.

It’s a way to create “songs” with logic and not having to chain patterns.

cool, nanoloop has had that for a long time, good to see it in elektron gear as well (I know it’s been a feature in the analog boxes for a while).

Just wondering about selling my MPC1000 to make way for the Digitakt. I do miss my OT terribly but a few things pissed me off (monophonic samples, MIDI note polyphony awkward, etc). Think I may have to give this one a swerve which is a shame, I love the Elektron sequencers.

Nice trip! Congrats on new LP and DT. Hope both go well

Sounds like the things that pissed you off are still part of the Digitakt. 4 note "chords" on MIDI tracks only, no polyphony on audio tracks, AFAIK.
I've been thinking about all the fun ways to hack at the thing, and using the LFO to do "video game" style chords (modulating through a pitch sequence very quickly) or wave-travel through a sample with a bunch of pitches I think will be fun.

God the thing just looks so chunky and fun. Still going to have to wait until June to get mine, but it just screams “PLAY WITH ME”.

I’m REALLY tempted to get one of these…only sampler or sequencer i’ve ever used is the OP-1, so I’m not sure any of the drawbacks people have mentioned would really be noticeable to me.

The main drawback is peoples’ creativity.

Kaboom.
(and I mean this with no disrespect to anyone in this thread, just really agree with this statement as a whole)

The unofficial ‘hardware forums mantra’ for whenever someone wants/needs a feature that someone else doesn’t care about…

Theres plenty of other options out there aside from Digitakt. If it doesn’t do what you want it to do, get something else.

Yeah man, People tend to focus on how gear can improve rather than improving their own musical ability/creativity

@lescour1

Yeah, obviously. Thanks for the wisdom. That wasn’t really what either of us were talking about tho…
