Elektron Digitakt

Not wanting to play devils advocate but a common response is "i have had more fun with DT than months of Octatrack", could that fun be short lived (because of the supposed short comings) and soon be wanting to return to the Octatrack?

Also i wonder how many DT users will trade theirs for the forthcoming Rytm MK2 once Cenk uploads some moody busy beats with it on youtube? The Rytm and DT do overlap somewhat in their purpose no?

Time will tell!

I do get the impression that the OS is very much a work in progress, steered by community feedback. Yes, Elektron will have one eye on the commercial angle of not having too much overlap with the OT but as essentially a one shot sampler I can’t see the DT ever having slices and other such loop based features. Don’t think that is crippling the device but more being consistent with its core feature-set, and yeah, keeping it fun!

I would probably rather pair the DT with the Rytm Mki so you have MIDI and CV sequencing. Look for the Mkis coming down in price!

Instead of debating what samplers lack what, let's discuss which guitar is the best! lol

Martin!

All joking aside I don’t own a OP-1 or Digitakt (Clearly want both) but still read this forum everyday because of it’s normalcy.

Keep Liven

Yeah agreed. Will try to keep posts more on the positive (and short ;) in future.

But quickly, I wasn’t really debating what I don’t want to buy, I totally agree that that’s a super negative and pointless trip. I was more like lamenting that the boxes that I do want to buy seem to repeatedly get shelved or steered elsewhere at some point in dev/company meetings… And DT is another one of those for me. Felt like the right thread to vent in but looking back it was kinda killjoy! Sorry. No two people want/need exactly the same box so guess I just gotta wait it out til it’s my turn to get hyped

Hey FWIW I do agree with you on this, as an OT user it’s kind of frustrating to see Elektron making a cool little box with great sound and sleek interface, that fixes many of the OT’s annoyances (OB, interface, conditional trigs) but drops a bunch of critical features in the process (scenes, flexible routing, thru tracks, fx blocks, extra outs, arranger, etc). Feels like 2 steps forward, 2 steps back to me. The temptation for a DT is strong but I’m not really willing to give up all the power features of the OT, so I’m staying put. This frustration is somewhat compounded by the fact that the OT MKII is basically a cosmetic upgrade, while the other machines got a pretty big overhaul. Just now it feels like OT users have been left by the wayside a bit.

Anyway, props to everyone for keeping this upbeat as well, it’s definitely a refreshing change of pace from the elektronauts forums.

For me DT is a more direct soundmangler then the OP-1, which btw I also started using more again after getting into the DT. Less possibilities maybe but very well organised and deeep: unexpected sounds and rythms are always around the corner. Also the generative possibilities are really cool. Love the OP-1, but for me DT is more immersive, faster to work and sounds better too. Maybe I’ll step up to other elektron gear in the future, but for now I’m very pleased with the directness of working with the DT

Hey, don’t be all bashing Elektronauts, it’s already hard enough to drive this good old boat towards the Light !!

Seriously, we just had a big crisis and I can see Nauts get back to music with a renewed energy…
+ We have several private discussions to change the mood for the better.

Now, DT is at the very beginning of its life. For every Elektron box that was announced, many of the functionalities that are now seen as indispensable were not implemented yet.
Snapshots (= projects) on MD/MM
+Drive for A4
Trig conditions for A4/AR…

DT doesn’t even have a backup functionality at the moment !
It’s too new to be taken as a final product.
Yet already very capable.

hah, sorry, I know you guys are doing your best. Hope it gets back on track soon. I think the frenzy of all these new announcement is probably part of the reason behind it, and that’ll die down with time.

Yeah, will be cool to see what new features they introduce with the DT in time. Or even the OT - still holding out for trig conditions. I’ll probably succumb to temptation at some point anyway, when the used prices come down low enough.

I already sold my OT 850€.
I want a Cirklon in my life, and so far DT is such fun I’m OK on the sampler side…
I was tired of Parts, inputs in the red, and a few things that showed OT was aging a bit, in my eyes…

Don’t wait too much for low prices, I don’t see them dropping.

E.g. once A4 mk1 new are gone, I thought no prices will get back to normal.
Now is the good time to get a new A4 : I have the biggest trouble not to buy me a second one !!!

Yeah, I’m really struggling to keep away from the A4; especially with a 10% off ebay sale as well, it’s torture. Alas, it really won’t fit into my setup very well, even though I’ll easily be able to compose full tracks with it alone.

I’ve got my eye on a 0-coast instead, which ironically/incidentally would be very easy/awesome to control using the A4, aargh
