EP-Patch Studio - Review

I just wanted to write a short review about EP-Patch Studio.

It’s a great tool for the EP series samplers. I own 2 of them, the EP-133 KO2 & the EP40 Riddim.

I started using EP-PS as a beta tester after asking Joe a question about it, and, after answering my question, he asked if I would I like to help beta test it, so I did.

There are so many great features to this app that it’s hard to pick a favourite, but here are just a few of them.

You can backup the entire device, a single project or individual samples. There is a sample editor which allows to trim samples and upload them to your EP device.

This is great, as, unlike the trim on the EP sampler, this one does remove data before and after the Start and End locaters, which means you save sample memory. Of course there are times when you might want to have the full sample on your EP device, and use the trim option on the EP to adjust start and end points, but at least now you have a choice.

As well as trimming the sample, the editor gives you other options such as bit rate reduction (this prints the reduction to the audio, the actual file stays at 16bit), stereo to mono conversion, normalise sample and a whole bunch of other editing options. You can also select 44 kHz or 22kHz, again saving memory if you choose the 22kHz option.

The file manager is a powerful part of EP-PS. It allows you to download a sample from your EP device to your computer, replace a sample (drag a new sample over an existing one), and see what projects a sample is used in.

For example, a sample in the file manager list used in projects 4 and 9 will have P04 and P09 next to it in the list.

A sample with no P numbers next to it means that it’s not being used in any projects. This is great as it means you can delete that sample without messing up any projects, freeing up space to either resample or load new samples in.

Finally, the price. The price options are very fair, and in my opinion, very reasonable. I actually bought it even though Joe kindly offered me a free license for helping test it, I decided it was worth the money as I’ll definitely be using it.

So if you have any EP device, head over to his site - https://ep-patch.studio

and give it a go.

I honestly don’t think you’ll regret it.

Thanks Roy for all the help and feedback!

Glad you’re enjoying the app.

You’re welcome Joe :+1:

I ‘only’ have an OP-XY, but the OP-PatchStudio that Joe built for the OP-XY is awesome. He’s always open to new ideas and really quick in eliminating bugs.

I’ll have to check out his OP-XY Patch Studio. He certainly is open to ideas & always replies to emails.

If you get a chance to try an EP device, I’d say give them a go. I can’t speak for the Medieval, but the KO2 and Riddim are great. Fast and fun devices.

I’ve already started work on the fully native OP-PatchStudio app BTW. It will have device and project backup too as well as all the sample management and creation.
