Favorite compact gear on batteries

I also have a Vestax Handy Trax, however mine seems to suffer from a bit of a ground loop noise problem… basically there’s a kind of low frequency growl that’s always there in the background. Do you get that with yours at all @smashedcrab?

Without a doubt the best gear I have that runs on batteries is my Nintendo 3DS. I’ve got most of the music-making apps and “games” and it’s loads of fun. Technically, I could have said my iPad or Windows phone but I’ve gotten less enthused about making music on these devices while the Nintendo products still hold a certain intrigue for me.

A close second would be the Korg Kaos products which do run on actual batteries.

Pignose battery amp and tascam dr05 and ipad

I love battery operated gear due to the freedom it allows, and truth be told it is almost a prerequisite to my purchasing decisions these days.

Loving the microgranny as well. Got the Bastl drum and midi Bastl coming shorty and can’t wait to sync them all up to Op-1

@yoof I don’t notice any extra noise at all, but I haven’t used it that much. Fairly impressed with it so far.

PO-12.

I like my wavedrum mini a lot!

Yamaha CS-01 portable analog synth (the last real analog Yamaha made). Steely and Clevie used one for the bass lines on countless dancehall hits: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aLqkm078aJg

Been enjoying my TR-505 the last few days. Not the hottest thing on earth, I know, but it works! Lol I actually like most of the sounds, except the closed hats and the high cowbell.

I love the RC-505.

It’s got a TON of memory, and between an that device, the iPad Mini Retina and my OP-1, I have pretty much broken the shackles of a desk-based workstation.

Damn! I WISH the RC-505 ran on batteries.

I like my wavedrum mini a lot!

I’ve thought about the mini wavedrum, it looks super fun. Although, from the reviews, people say it’s limited on kits. Is that true? And there’s no midi or anything like that right?

yeah the cs-01 sounds very good! I sold mine a few months ago but only because i got the microbrute. honestly, the cs-01 has a more desirable sound but no where near the versatility.

@Drio yeah, the rc-505 is so nice and i sort of want one but lack of battery power and plastic casing keeps me away. On a similar note, I’ve decided to cave and buy an ipad this fall with which I’ll be using loopy hd. I want that strom app for my rytm and am thinking of downsizing a bit of my synthy stuff since ipad has soooo many synth options. Can anybody tell me a reason that the ipad and a nice filter/effects box wouldn’t be the ultimate batt powered lab?

NVM: Found them! =}

I’m totally fond of my Pocket Piano MIDI (Critter & Guitari) !

I did not shoot this video but wish I did

And Korg Volca Bass Beats Keys are a lot of fun, and killer sounds !!

Yes it’s superfun and has only limited kits, but you have many exotic drum stuff and a lot of melodic stuff too, it’s kind of like the kaossilator. You can record a loop up to 25 seconds, that’s much better than the KO. Another thing I like about it is, that you play a real instrument without programming and no Midi, very relaxing and calming your mood @Kites

Trying to remember the name of this gear, It was posted either on here or the previous forum: It was a big black box thing that attached to the USB/Headphones/Line-in on the OP-1, I believe it was to reduce wear on the ports but also may have served another purpose (midi? battery??), trying to remember what it was…

Pendeo monolith?

^TY! Price is right too =D.

OP-1 works great with my white Tenori-on, Kaossilator 2, Mini KP2, Chimera BC-8, Korg Monotron Duo, Monotron Delay, Akai MPX-8 (added batt. pack), and a few iOS apps. Occasionally I use the DS-10 or M01 apps on the Nintendo 3DS.

All items are hooked into a tiny mixer and recorded live as needed to a portable digital recorder. All the gear fits in a small backpack. I built a polymer backing board setup with velcro attachments in case I want to slap all of the gear on, hook it up, and go to town without a nearby table. It becomes a lap table. I only do that once in a while since the board is bigger than the backpack.
