Feature Request: Timestretching

Anyone else think a native timestretching function would be super useful? Like even to extreme Paulstretch-styled levels, being able to not just slow down a sample but stretch it to nearly infinite levels much like a Freeze effect seen in a lot of reverbs. Some features that would exponentially amplify the sampling capabilities on the OP-1f!

I know there is a workaround with LFOs but it doesn’t sound as nice as I think having it natively built in would.

And here’s a “buffer freeze” also seen in the Torso S4, something I think would be awesome on the OP-1f. Not quite timestretching but to orchestrate what a ‘freeze’ effect would look like. I assume it might be possible playing with the loop points in a sample though. Torso S4 Buffer Freeze

I got sent this thread via email, was going to mention about the LFO time stretch method but looks like you’re already aware of that :slight_smile:

But yes, regular time stretching would be a cool option, maybe in the sample engines on the page where you choose mono/poly/unison etc, with a decrease in polyphony if required for CPU reasons, that would be fine.

Could you not record to tape that is set to x2 speed. Then put to regular (or /2) for playback. That will slow things way down like paulstretch would.

It can work, I just think having it on a per-sample basis (i.e, in the sample/looping edit screen) would be nice to stretch individual samples for putting in the track.

Even little hint in the Sampler like showing 8ths notes grid would allow to fit different sample regions to the current tempo of the tape. It’s not time stretching per se, but at lest it would allow manually fit samples to the time even if you use transpositon.

Having no time stretching is obviously a huge issue for certain types of chromatic samples.

For sure, playing high note samples that end 5x faster than the low notes can be a cool effect sometimes, but it would be practical to have some kind of timestretching feature.
