I’ve had my OP-1 for 24 hours now…and I’ve gotta say I’m impressed.
Unfortunately, I’m going to have to send it in for an exchange because of an output issue…but should have a replacement in a few days.
The build quality is really good (though not quite what I was expecting due to all the lavish praise in that regard).
The synths are great…and a lot deeper than they first appear.
I really dig the DrWave.
They are more digital sounding than I was expecting…a lot of the sounds are really crystalline and brittle.
It’s surely a lo-fi machine…it really adds a lot to my set-up sonically in that regard…I’m looking forward to exploring this side of things.
You can get some fatness out of it with the effects. I stumbled on a few sounds that reminded me of the Poly-61 (which I love).
CWO is awesome…super fun and musical…the graphic is worth it on its own.
Spring grew on me after a while…it really creates an interesting sense of space if used tastefully
I really like the Dbox…there’s some great stuff hidden in there.
I just barely scratched the surface of sampling and layering then working different tempos and tape speed…a lot of fun concrète depth there.
Overall it still feels a little pricey…but considering you can take it anywhere…that makes it worth the money to me.
I’m really stoked with it and can’t wait to load it with samples and dig in more.
Here’s my first track…put together in an hour or so (100% OP-1 w vocal sample from built in mic):

Nice Job!
Well that’s far more sophisticated than anything I’ve come up with in my first week, though I have been sick and my dad had a heart attack. I am still not last getting my head around recording loops…
cool stuff man,
Yeah I’m starting to find everything sounding samey so less-digital tips would be appreciated.
Thanks everyone for the kind words!

Very sorry to hear about your dad Lushr…I hope everything turns out ok.

So far I’ve found that the use of Nitro can help (automated with an LFO if it works for the track)
Unison mode helps a good bit.
Layering multiple sounds on Tape works pretty well
A little Spring on the master effect slot can thicken things some too.
In the end, there’s no real escape from the digitalness I suppose…I tried running the output through a tube pre-amp with decent results.
I also usually (not for the above track however) try to give all my stuff at least one pass through tape…this takes a little of the digital sheen off usually.
Yeah I find that the brighter the sound the more brittle the tracks can feel so I just try to have a range of timbres. Gotta say that the way the recordings decay and overlay each other I really like, I actually love digital artefacts but in balance with some warmth.
Dad is home acting like nothing happened, he got a stent put in and there’s pretty much no damage yo the heart - lucky! Now we have to keep hi. Entertained at home for a month. I bought him an iPod nano and will show him how to digitise his extensive lp collection, that should keep him busy!
Anyway @drio you inspired me to get on and finish a piece, which I have, so much appreciated! Sorry about the output, I haven’t tested mine yet… What I don’t know… Can’t hurt me!
