As never really went deep into the world of LFOs, I wonder what are the pruposes and reasons that you can use them for?
So far I understand that they can be used for,
further prosessing your sounds, in any way eg. adding tremolo, etc.
automate performances you would normally do by hand, like ramping a filter over time etc.
I would say you can use an LFO to just control any parameter you would normally change by hand. So it’s a 3rd hand that turns the knob for you. I use LFOs most of the time for filter cutoff, OSC waveform, envelope release time, sample end time.
This might fall under “tremolo,” but you can use LFOs to add more rhythmic elements to a sound/voice without actually playing more notes.
For example, if you put a tempo-sync’d LFO on the filter cutoff (or just a synth parameter), a held chord can kind of sound like triplets if its has an LFO set to triplets, even if the effect is super subtle.
If you’re using an XY or Z (or any standard sequencer actually), you can lock different LFO rates to different steps, making the rhythm change while still holding just the one chord.
Have been really enjoying the RANDOM LFO on original OP-1 as it affects all 4 parameters in the synth or FX (haven’t really tried too much sending to to the Envelope, but could be an area of future study…) - you can really get some far out tones that way!
