It seems they prioritized minimalism over usability…
This device brings the cynicism out of me.
It’s just so disappointing.
ditto
Putting the price aside, I kinda like it. But as an FM radio listener rather than as a musician.
However…
Aren’t the speaker cones too vulnerable to damage, given the portable nature of this device?
CB
super stoked. that motor dial!!
maybe there’s a mixer section coming to the back but it would make a great stand for the OP1 and OP-Z
Using this as a stand for the OP-Z and streaming the audio via BT would be soooo dope. I really hope they’ll add that feature.
I think they will be releasing a module for OP-Z with FM Transmitter. That would be lagless.
Can anyone say if it is possible to turn the OP-1 Radio into a Transmitter? I think the Software can be changed, but is the hardware capable of that?
I can plug my FM transmitter into the OP-Z jack and send audio to my car stereo. Cost me $15.
…now it will cost TE 15,- and we‘ll grab the repacked Transmitter in module form for 159,- lol
i Hope they Go BT
BT Transmitter and receiver that can be used with OP-Z and OP-1 for $30. There is a noticeable delay for live playing, but it is perfectly functional and there are other Bluetooth audio devices that are fast enough to be used live.
I am always ready to be surprised by TE, and they did say the OB-4 will have some functionality with the OP-Z, but I have my doubts that they are planning to release an FM/Bluetooth audio module for the OP-Z because it seems like something that they could have released a long time ago if they were so inclined. Nothing innovative or expensive about the tech, and from a “What do customers want?” perspective it would be a no-brainer. Every OP-Z owner would buy one and it would make it a lot more attractive to new buyers.
I think the OB-4/OP-Z connection will be that the OP-Z can be used as a MIDI controller to play with the OB-4 tape. I have tried asking them through email/Instagram/Youtube about whether the OB-4 will be able to transmit Bluetooth audio and whether they can clarify any plans for the OP-Z to transmit/receive Bluetooth audio with the OB-4, and they haven’t answered the question.
It seems like expanding the OP-Z’s audio functionality is the obvious next step given the OB-4, and I hope it happens, but I am not getting my hopes up at this point. Putting a line out on the OB-4 would have also been an incredibly logical and likely choice to make, yet here we are.
Maybe a new module for the Z. Fm transmit module plus BT.
This will solve the latency thing
and you can jam with friends with op-z’s on one fm frequency.
And once again, The Simpsons predicted it already.
I don’t know, I still think they got inspiration from here:
$ 2,490
First review on Youtube that I have seen from a user. He basically says it has a slick build and sounds great, but there is no secret option for recording audio out and you can’t manually tune for radio. Apparently, it just jumps between strong stations and he says he can’t get it to jump to his favorite station, although he does live in a rural area. Seems like he is a fan of the features and quality overall and is glad that he bought it.
I recently got a reply from TE about Bluetooth functionality and they confirmed that there is no audio out via line, USB, or Bluetooth. They hinted that updates might expand the functionality in future years when I asked about Bluetooth audio transmission, but they were not confirming or promising anything. The future OP-Z compatibility is definitely going to be MIDI control unless they are being secretive, but I think they were being honest with me. They might also be hinting at introducing an FM/Bluetooth transmitter for the OP-Z, but those do already exist.
i’m currently pretty into mantra #5 and #9.
Guys, I think that there be more there that meets the eyes. I see this radio as an extension to some future TE product, i.e. a synth (OP2?) with built in wireless syncing and capability to export the output of the remix wirelessly (hence the absence of an aux out, it will be wireless). I am just trowing my thoughts here, and maybe my desires, but how cool would that be and how much sense will this make in the future if this would come to be true?
I think that would be great, but I hope it’s not for a future product but rather expanding their existing ones, perhaps as an opz module? I still think that wireless real time audio transfer isn’t as good as a cable. I personally think the reason they chose not to include the feature is because the speakers are supposed to be the end of the chain, they are the tool that you listen to the audio from. But like most other people I find it frustrating that they have such cool and unique synth features in a speaker unit without any way to extract it for other production uses. I think ultimately it’s just down to their design philosophy.
Wow the ob-4 arrived. And it is indeed magic and loud!
And pretty. And just in time for the lockdown
