My setup is pretty unpolished. Bastl microGranny, Korg NTS-1 feeding right into a TASCAM, sometimes with Old Blood Noise Endeavors Signal Blender. My tracks so far have been incredibly loud for typical headphones, even when played at volume setting 1. And a lot of white noise creeps in.
Any tips for fixing these issues? Should I look for a menu somewhere in Audacity?

There’s grunge, and then there’s just physically harmful waveforms.
I think once the noise is there, you have to live with it. Either you record louder signals or try to filter high frequencies with an EQ.
I had the same problem today. But I didn’t try anything against it cause it never really worked out well for me.
I use Audacity as well and I know there’s a tool where you first analyze the noise and the tool goes over the mix, but no changes really… It’s difficult.

Truth.
Audio Wanderer was king enough to point out that my TASCAM mic gain was a likely culprit. Once I changed the factory default, even just to automatic, the next recording was much better!
