Using the word “fearmongering” to describe the price trajectory of a line of synths is bonkers.
I think if you use it all the time it’s not a lot of money. For me I’d rather spend a lot of money on something I’m going to use everyday. Both the Analog Rytm and Analog 4 sat around collecting dust. At the end of the day it’s just money. If you can afford it why not enjoy life and blow cash on what you want to sometimes. It’s better than wasting it on cigarettes or booze.
Not really
Am I reading your message incorrectly? Seems like you’ve zero’d in on cost of TE gear as concerning and are stoking anxiety over what their as-yet-unreleased “next thing” will cost
There’s a possibility you’re right and the costs continue ramping up but what’s left unsaid has me doubting the reason for your concerns. However, correct me if I’m wrong, you seem to be implying that TE could and should be selling their stuff for less…that they are setting each price arbitrarily high in a way that’s decoupled from rising cost of parts, employee salaries/benefits, machining, or RnD involved in creating new products.
The concerns might feel legitimate if the same criteria applied to any other company. I don’t see what makes TE exceptional: there are plenty of music tools and instruments that equal or exceed their field line in expense.
Why are they the only ones that evoke this kind of response?
Hey man I really appreciate the essay like effort and passion you’re putting into these responses and this can obviously go on forever - almost as like a source of entertainment.
If you’d like to see a more technical / education approach - here’s (i think) 90 TE related videos that i’ve put out that may be worth something to you or anyone reading: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLE5yApCgtOwA_IIXtsO_uETkp54DzcHc5
Enjoy your weekends
Please, Liam. I really enjoy your content, but all of this is really disappointing.
I think ultimately @liamkillenmusic doesn’t really want a discussion on this topic, he wants views of content. If he solely wanted a discussion he’d just write his views directly in a forum like this, or be willing to keep discussing it on the thread he created. Instead he just directs people to watch more of his videos.
If I was to exchange essays with people who disagree with my takes / gear i use / how I produce / how I edit my videos ect ect ect I wouldn’t have time to do anything else lol.
That being said, I do have an open Discord community where we have friendly and respectful discussions about this kind of stuff all the time - i’m active there on a daily basis and there’s also many other brainy folks who can contribute much more than I can - here’s an invite link for anyone who might be interested: Liam Killen
my point was that i think its bs that someone loaned it to you, not what it costs in canada.
Thats why its the same old rant, based on a logical fallacy.
Yes, you can buy something else for that money. Yes, other stuff does other things. No, Analog Four, Rytm, Digitakt or Digitone are not individually comparable with XY. They’re neither both sampler and synths, nor have a battery, bluetooth or a size/weight factor.
Is comparing apples with oranges really that meaningful of a discussion?
Big companies who’s been around for decades and have a reputation among established industry pros are rarely the ones content creators challenge fiercely. TE appeals to a younger crowd with their high end gear.
Younger crowd is shared with content creators in the bedroom producer budget space. That’s why there’s so much content about TE’s prices.
No silly face thumbnails with “MOOG CHARGES WUT FOR MOOG ONE?!” or “I BOUGHT 100K OF MODULAR. WAS IT A MISTAKE?”
nah, lets talk it out here, even if you are able to do so once a video release ) Objectively, Elektron’s sequencers are more precise. Objectively, XY does more than a single Elektron box. Is paying more for a different package objectively less valuable than sequencing features of an Elektron box the point you were making?
I remember the days when I was just excited to hear Moog was releasing anything, forget the price. But social media and the internet have certainly disrupted a lot of how music gear is produced, marketed, and consumed… and I think there’s a lot of good that has come from it… despite some of the casualties along the way
I didn’t click on the video. I think it would be obvious that promoting that video here wouldn’t be well received so I won’t take the bait.
It’s obvious that if I’m thinking about buying an OP-XY I can afford it, and can also afford whatever other gear I could get instead of the OP-XY. I choose what I know I will like and will use, that’s all I buy.
I could buy some Elektron boxes or some software, I could also buy a new kayak or a camera. Or a dozen trips to the grocery store for bags of apples and oranges.
Most of the current content is just clout
Social media changed nothing about innovation and dedication. It just caters the average perception.
Hey, we’re all promoting Liam’s piece of advice here, so it works!
