iPad won't recognize MIDI input from OP-1

dwnload midi monitor and fiddle with it until you can get in msgs. alternativly ios 8 may be the issue. usually the accessory is not supported is meaningless and my midi will still work. the only ios msg that ever really means there is an issue is the one about power draw(with audio interfaces etc…)

Just wanted to close the loop here for anyone else who encounters this in the future - never was able to make it work with the USB Camera to Lightning adapter, but I went and got the old-school 30-pin Camera Connection Kit, hooked up a 30-pin to Lightning adapter onto it, and that whole shebang now works just fine and the OP-1 is sending midi data as needed.

Not sure if I had a defective USB Camera to Lightning, or if the combination of that hardware + OP-1 + iOS 8 just doesn’t work… just happy I got it going. Thanks again to all who helped throw out ideas here.

Some of Apple’s cables actually have ram inside (!) and as a result are reasonably delicate and complicated. I had a lightning to 30 pin adapter that just stopped working one day so took it back to the Apple Store for a replacment. It now works fine, perhaps this problem also exists with lightning to usb cable.

Old thread

Having same issue, not sure what you mean you used a 30 pin on lightening bolt air? Do you mean I need to use the 30pin CCK with an adapter to the Lightning port on the iPad? Thanks in advance if anyone ends up reading this.

To clarify I been plugging the op1 directly into the iPad with lightening to USB. Bought the plug from Apple Store, and it works with other gear. I do get a error saying device needs more power then iPad can supply. So I think I disabled charging and still nothing. Maybe I need a powered USB hub?

I think the order in which you plug things in matters…

Try plugging the USB cable into the OP-1 first, then plug the other end into the Camera Connetion Kit. Then connect the CCK to the iPad last.

I ended up using a power USB hub, everything works now…
