iPhone audio input?

Quick question, and then a longer explanation as to why I’m asking/what I’m hoping to accomplish.

I’m trying to connect my iOS device, to my OP-XY, in order to hear any/all sounds played by my iOS device through the headphones plugged into my OP-XY.

Any assistance is appreciated. I’ve been reading the manual, and haven’t figured this out just yet (if it’s even possible), and didn’t locate anything using ‘search’ feature here beyond people wanting to send recordings FROM the OP-XY OUT to an external device.

The reason I’d like to figure this out is two-fold:

First, what has me learning the OP-XY faster than just about anything else I’ve tried has been dissecting existing music I enjoy, and replicating it on the OP-XY. This often has me switching from earbuds connected to my iPhone, and headphones connected to the OP-XY. It would be incredible if i could connect the two, and hear whatever is being put out by BOTH my phone, AND my OP-XY, all through the single set of headphones (eliminating the need to switch back and forth).

Secondly… the door that would open up to sampling would be pretty enormous. It would make the deletion of the ‘FM radio’ feature moot… as anything you can pull up/play on the iOS device can therefore be ‘heard’/recorded by the OP-XY.

It feels like this should already be ‘a thing’, but I’m stuck on figuring it out.

Answered my own question with some trial and error. I’m certain this is basic knowledge for the experts out there, but if it helps another newB like me… perfect!

-USB-C to 3.5mm (F) adapter

-3.5 (M) -to-3.5 (M) cable plugged into adapter

-Remaining 3.5mm (M) end plugged into to 3.5mm line ‘IN’ on the OP-XY

-Hit the ‘Sample’ key.

-turn the black encoder until you see the L/R and 3.5mm logo in the upper right corner of the screen

-play whatever you like on the device, and review/sample, as necessary.

Tried and confirmed with my music library, YouTube, radio streaming apps, as well as video streaming services.

Attempting the same with usb-c to usb-c, I’ve got little pops and static… and the level meter SUGGESTS it’s getting audio from the device… but I have yet to get it to pass through recognizable sound. (Will keep trying, though)

The bummer is I’m almost positive usb audio worked at some point. Both on the op1 field and the opxy, but I also haven’t been able to get audio coming into either device from phone over usb..

weird, works with me. The problem is when you connect multiple class audio on iOS, things get weird. iOS doesn’t support audio device aggregation. Usually it ends up showing the interface that is last plugged in.

Would be so cool if they are able to get aggregation into iOS

Would u be open to sharing what phone / iOS version you’re on? I wonder if that matters?

I’m 26.6.2 on 17pro

Euh, I’ll have a look and test to be sure. brb

Tested on:
iPad M3 iOS 26.3.1 (a) using AUM to check for audio connectivity
iPhone 16 iOS 26.6.1 using AUM to check for audio connectivity

Tested with:

  • OP-XY
  • OP-1f
  • OP-Z
  • EP-40
  • EP-136
  • TX-6
  • CM-15

None had any issue, all worked as expected, including the different modes where present.

Hope this helps.

EDIT:
Did the same test on an iPhone 16 @ iOS 26.6.1 Same results

Specifically for your use case I also connected the iPhone to my XY to check if it also works with things like Youtube. Test result is again as expected. Youtube audio was blaring out of the XY.

I just switched to v27.0 in both the iPhone and iPad. I will test out both 3.5 & USB again tonight and report back/edit.

Audio in/throughput via USB now working A-OK.

OP-XY firmware v1.1.33

iPhone 15 Pro Max running iOS 27.0

Apple OEM USB-C to USB-C that came with my phone.

I initially turned the usb port charging to ‘off’ on the COM screen. After though, determined it works either way.

Plugged in USB. Went to the Sample page, and black dial to set to USB input. And immediately plays perfectly.

so maybe it was an iOS 26 issue?
