For those who care, especially fellow piano lovers, the latest OP-1 Field firmware (1.7.3) includes a rather cryptic new feature (at least to me): “make sustain pedal work for locally played notes as well.”
So I decided to give it a try and bought an M-Wave Chocolate to connect a sustain pedal. After a bit of trial and error, I finally got it working.
You need to download CubeSuite on your PC and connect the Chocolate via USB. At the top, keep “Expression Pedal” selected, then click [Interface] and [Add] if the table is empty.
Then double-click the entry and set:
-
Channel: 1
-
Data: 64
-
Loosen Value: 0
-
Stop On Value: 127
for a standard positive-polarity sustain pedal.
If your pedal has reversed polarity, simply swap the 0 and 127 values.
Finally, enable Bluetooth on the OP-1 Field and it should automatically connect to the Chocolate. That’s all there is to it.
It’s a wonderful addition, especially when paired with a good multi-sampled piano sound!
