So, what are the thoughts on using this alongside the likes of OP-1F, OP-XY, and the rest of the field system (including TX-6)? A bit redundant, or just a new mixer with lower barrier to entry? Mod stick and big level faders do seem tempting, though…
not redundant but too big to be portable (for me)
I like the built in audio interface. Especially considering the target price it’s shaping up to be a really solid deal - the Zoom AMS-44 is a 4i/4o audio interface with basically the same RRP.
I think it’ll be useful even with an OP-XY. Use the multi-out and split things into two channels. The OP-XY only has one master compressor and one master EQ so being able to process two busses plus add some simple fx. I have an OP-Z with the line module and I can definitely see the sidekick being useful for the same use case. I think that the market for compact performance mixers has been brutally underserved for a long time, especially considering the success of mini music devices like TE’s boxes, Roland’s mini AIRAs, the Volcas, etc.. It’s interesting to see Korg also releasing a mini mixer that’s shaping up to be everything the Volca Mix should’ve been. Maybe I’m just in the minority lusting after the dream mini performance mixer when a cheap behringer mixer will do the job just fine though.
I’m curious about the USB audio interface. The signal flow diagram shows USB out only, but the text claims it works as a 8 in/4 out USB audio interface too. Any idea how it works in reality, i.e., how is the incoming USB audio routed?
same here
it could be an impulse buy as a solution for ep133 not having usb audio but i need to know how it works
docs are telling me nothing rn
it only has six physical inputs. inputs 7 & 8 mirror the master output.
From a DJ perspective. I just received it today, and put it through the ringer all day long. And it sounds amazing! Already recorded an amazing set, I put in a feature request to TE, for the followng: Can the effects have a lock/hold enabled on the pressure pad so it frees up your hand to further eq and sculpting of the sound while performing. And then pressing the pad to disable/unlock the Fx. Can the effects be post fader especially the delay to create an effects trail when fading down the track. USB Midi Hybrid Mode so that you can control software without losing the built in audio capability. Right now you have to go fully midi controller to control software but lose the in built audio. Internal Monitoring of the CUE to allow for the main mix to bleed through the headphone port. And lastly can the USB port be set to record to external drives if not used with a computer…
Is it possible to connect OP-1 field to KO-sidekick using USB-C, and resampling one of the tape tracks running through one of the channels of the mixer?
Ha I was digging that swell around 22:00
really easy to make quick amazing sets with this thing
I’m considering to possibly get a Sidekick for super-portable setups, since it seems like a nice way to integrate an iPad with a couple of small pieces of hardware in a tiny case.
However, the one big missed opportunity here, IMNSHO, is that I would have loved to have an integrated cross-fader. I don’t even do DJ sets myself (although that’s an obvious application). But I find crossfaders to be super useful for fading/flipping between different sub-mixes while performing a set.
Of course, I could still easily visualize someone walking two KO-133’s and a Sidekick into the booth to play a quick set anyway. But a cross-fader really would have facilitated that setup.
I received a response back from TE with a very helpful section of the user guide which explains how to use the Sidekick in the manner in which I was inquiring. There is an FX hold/lock feature, and there is a way to listen to the main mix bus on the headphone out. However, there is still no way to monitor both the main mix and cue outputs from the headphone out, hoping that this can be an added feature via a firmware update. That and usb-c port recording to an external drive.
