hi!
Is ANY synthesizer FIT for “rugged use”?!!!
Once i left my op-1 on my balcony and was going to the toilet. When i came back it was raining on my op-1! I had an heart attack, turned it off and dryed it 24h. It still worked after this.
I always smoke pot while making music. My op-1 is also my super expensive ashtray… But never had any problems because of this. I once had problems with keys not working but it was when my op-1 was new. Repaired it (new keyboard) and never had any problems again with the keys…
^ love your honest analysis @Mushroots .
I have a 2nd hand one that was 2nd hand when he bought it.It’s old and that works smoother than the 1 year old model I’m still breaking in.They seem to age well as the old one has a lovely action to its aged keyboard, while my newer has strange behavior like dust under keys and buttons, making them trigger on their own.
I baby mine. Dust protection, never wet, condensation caution, etc. still tho. I guess it’s luck.
I think I bought mine in late 2011. Then the the unit portables case came out and I bought one of those. Since then, I’ve taken it to work and used it on busy trains every day. Touch wood (and I don’t want to jinx it), it’s still in great condition.
Yes they are robust.
I must add my new one came with its fault and I hope it’ll work the dust out.(Don’t want to send it back).
Mine’s from 2012 and still working great, but it does seem like the battery isn’t lasting quite as long as it used to.
Ya it’s weird mine also had key issues when I first got it. Some keys would be unresponsive. Removing the keys and using and air gun usually solves this. Haven’t had any problems with keys for a few years, I think they need a level of breaking in. Also if you drop the op1 and you have stuff plugged into the jacks, and it lands on the jacks, your probably going to be needing a replacement io board.
Bought my first Op1 a couple of weeks ago. I was never able to use the damn thing since it never booted.
I drove several hours to change to unit.
The second Op1 stopped working today. Out of the blue. No boot screen. No battery led. Nothing.
Guess what I am thinking about the whole TE thing right now.

Wow! Over the years that I have had mine and being on the forum (including the original one), you really must have bad luck!!! Sorry to hear that!
I have my OP-1 since Oct 2012 and I never had any problem with it even after someone throwing it onto the ground. Nothing, yay!
Thanks guys!
Your words and the quick reply from TE made me thinking about uhm… a third unit.
I really like the idea behind the whole Op1 thing. I can manage the clicks and pops, I am a strong believer in the limitations. All I want is a working unit and I am happy.

That is truly frustrating, having to make 2 such round trips. I live near Los Angeles, a city infamous for rage-inducing traffic; I can imagine what that’s like.
deleted double post.
Seems to be a consensus on the keys eh? My problem is with the keys as well.
