Line out into iOS is clipping hard

I recently picked up an irig pro for recording into my iPad/iPhone when I’m out and about. It basically routes audio from the OP1 line out to the lightning connector for easy recording in Audioshare, etc.

I’ve turned the drive down completely, checked my level in tape mode, and flattened the EQ to its cleanest setting and I’m still clipping on a few different synths unless my output volume is turned way down. It’s worse when playing chords or using certain fx.

Output to headphones is just fine, as always, and I’m not clipping when using the irig with other sources.

Anyone have experience doing this? Am I missing something?

The ADC on the iRig Pro is very easy to hammer to shit, but should have a wheel to adjust the input.

What kind of cable are you using to connect them? I’ve seen (and own one) 3.5mm stereo to 6.3mm mono cables and some aren’t built right. You could be shorting the left and right side of the stereo output of the OP-1 - iRig Pro is mono.

I use a line 6 Sonic Port specifically because it has a 3.5mm stereo in as well as the guitar input.

How’s the noise floor on that Line 6?

Thanks @KrisM. I’m using a 3.5mm cable with a 6.3mm adapter, but it’s a stereo cable. Maybe that’s my problem. I forgot it was mono.

It works fine with other stuff though. Only the OP1 clips like that.
