I decided I need a microgranny in my life. Any opinions, stories, cool videos, tracks or demos you’d like to share? I’m hoping to hit the ground running when I get mine and this little thing is actually not too heavily featured on the webs - hoping to see some more
Microgranny owner and lover here. I don’t have many recordings featuring it, though I was planning on doing one soon. The thing I’ve been focusing on right now is sequencing it with the Octatrack. Since the Octatrack can parameter-lock or LFO MIDI CCs, you can use that to change what preset you are on to sequence it. Haven’t messed around with that too much, but the two make a lovely combo.
Sounds great! The Octatrack is the heart and soul of my setup, so this is great. I kind of got the feeling I can sequence different samples, but great to hear from someone who actually has done it.
This guy makes the best videos I’ve found. Beautiful stuff:
Had one, sold one, kinda wanted one again but know its just GAS.
One of the drawbacks of the thing I thought was that it can only play one sample at a time. That’s a pretty cool workaround with the OT that you can change the sample using CC’s.
Bastl Instruments are a wonderful company who are doing things beautifully differently from everyone else. Could not fault their customer service - it was second to none!
I love it! along with the op-1 it’s what I use the most. i’m not a fan of its bitcrusher, so i don’t use it, but apart from that it’s wonderfully tactile and direct, and super fun to play around with. Considering buying a second one. Or going modular.
I sold mine, I sold all my Bastl stuff. I had the whole trinity set too. It was all unstable and glitchy. The sound was very low in quality and it was too random. Sure the granny is fun and it does some neat things. But other devices can do it way better.
re: karbonckel & spacetravel’s comments, i’d argue that bastl’s unpredictability and limitations are part of what makes them great. their company isn’t about huge sets of features. obviously if you’re looking for a fully featured, hi-res sounding, polyphonic sampler then the microgranny isn’t for you. complaining about those things is like complaining that your pet fish doesn’t have legs, so why didn’t we get a cat, mom?
that said, spacetravel is right, there are a bunch of granular samplers on the ipad (borderlands granular is a fucking dream, go get it right now), but none of them sound anything like the microgranny. they all sound like they’re on an ipad. because they are.
i really wasnt slating the MG, I really loved it and still do and have thought a few times about getting another as they are great fun to play with. The thing I have to remind myself is that it wouldn’t fit into my workflow or fulfil my needs.
i sold mine and got another one down the road. love its lofi flavor, and things that it adds that my other samplers don’t do. i always use it w/ a buddy. and basically just sample stuff onto it. mess w/ it and then sample it back.
they had a recent update too that makes it way more stable now.
i think if u could do polyphonic stuff on it, it would be way more useable. like u could really get down on it.

I gave it another go this weekend and changing the samples with CC doesn’t work the very best. Sometimes it will stop playing and will do that search for sample thing. It would be so awesome if it was able to sequence perfectly
Getting a Granny, just thought I would bump this thread. Share your Granny music, videos etc. @josker the dude with he Duel Grannys on Youtube is impressive. I already want a second one.
You could also check out the slightly cheaper, equally awesome TB2 by Groovesizer: http://groovesizer.com/tb2/ I bought one, had to sell it. But probably will end up buying it again in the future.
