midi keyboard control

I usually either play my op1 with my electric piano through Ableton or Reason. Both of these options work fine, but i have been curious if there is a way to skip the software step adn just play directly from a midi keyboard to my op1? Guessing I will need some kind of in-between interface. Anybody have any suggestions? Thanks.

Oplab? iConnectMIDI4? Kenton MIDI USB Host?

thinking about getting an Oplab, but not sure I want to spend that much cash.

there is another usb to midi converter coming from modemachines…maybe worth to wait…

I checked out the Kenton online. and the iConnect. It appears, and I might be wrong, that both of them have to midi jacks for the old style 5 pin round plugs, not sure what I would need on the other end for it to work. What I really want to do is to control my op1 with my Akai max controller, without having to go through a computer. just straight in. so I suppose I need a regular USB cord, but then I would need a midi cord that had two five prongs on one end and a mini midi jack to go into my op-1, if that would even work… Has anyone tried doing this, and does it work, how, etc. latency problems? I’m very curious and hopeful that this is something I could make work. Ill probably end up biting the bullet and buying an oplab if that’s the only option. Thanks everyone for guidance and suggestions!

I think the Kenton should work for you:

1. Plug OP-1 in through USB
2. Plug Akai in through “old” Midi
3. Play

Or you use a USB Hub:

1. Plug OP-1 into USB Hub
2. Plug Akai into USB HUB
3. Plug Smartphone into USB Hub
4. Use a Midi Host smartphone app to connect your devices
5. Play

Seems to be a Kenton equivalent, isn’t it ?

This looks pretty interesting…

Wait… what? Midi host app?? You just blew my mind.

Oh, I see… like MidiBridge. I never thought of using it with a hub like that. What a novel idea.

I absolutely LOVE midibridge.

what? smartphone? I just want to plug my midi keyboard controller into my op1. Did I miss something here?

hmmm… okay, midibridge… alright. Ill give it a shot… Ive used that app, but only as a way to get apps on ipad and phone to be controlled with an external controller. Guess it makes sense that I could control op1 with it too. Ill let everyone know if it works.

I use MIDIBridge and a powered USB Hub (powered by a USB battery) and I can use my Arturia Beatstep and a USB midi keyboard at the same time.

@unflattered You don’t like his accent ?

About the midi sync, If I want to play the op-1 as always, and send its midi clock to other devices, kenton or cerebralusb should do the thing ? Or will the op-1 be “freezed” on the midi menu, just to send the clock ?

No, I just don’t feel like I’m listening to someone who understands the creative consumer. More like a salesman who boned up on the terminology, just before the presentation.

Goal: Use External Keyboard to play OP-1

I have:
Midi Bridge on iPhone 5s
A Casio CTK 593
Midi to Usb cable
Belkin 7 USB Hub
OP-1
Power

I got Midi Bridge but it's too... much... reading... anyone got a video?
