Has anybody done much with Modstep and the OP-1?
Hey Daedalus,
I’m starting to explore it as well, this app convinced me to buy a ipad mini and to plan a progressive shift to it as my main music production platform… Concerning the OP-1, the only thing I managed to do yet is to use it as a midi keyboard. Still eager to sequence the OP-1 with Modstep (It worked quite easily with the Meeblip), but no real try yet. To be followed!
@artsun , how is the Modstep experimenting going?
When you play back MIDI on the OP-1 with endless, if you hold down shift only the first note is red. So it’s like the incoming MIDI signals disrupt the recording.
Yes, you can only input notes in the sequencers using the OP1 keyboard, not via MIDI.
Need to get Modstep bought. It looks really good. The fact it works too with ableton link is f*cking amazing too!
Hey @daedalus1115! Looks like I somehow missed the notification more than a month ago, sorry
I didn’t go too far yet, managed to sequence the OP-1 from Modstep but as the MIDI implementation of the OP-1 is quite poor, you almost can’t modulate it from Modstep. So right now I’m more considering the OP-1 as the special part of an incoming liveset, beside Modstep sequencing various apps, Ableton on a laptop and maybe the Meeblip: the OP-1 would then be a performance tool, alternating between loops and live tweaking of the effects…
Anyone tried to use Modstep with Elastic Drums? How is it going?
@artsun , did you try beat syncing? I wanted the stop/start keys on the OP-1 to work in Modstep. Whenever I tried turning on syncing, enablin CC features in Modstep for the device and Modstep, the BPM in Modstep would spike all the way up when I’d press play, then gradually drop down to the set BPM and then oscillate around it.
@daedalus1115 - I won’t be able to reproduce the routine here for the moment but here is what i remember: i couldn’t start modstep by pressing start on the OP-1 but I could do the opposite, pressing start on Modstep launches the tape on the OP-1. Same thing for the sync, and if you make some big tempo changes in Modstep the OP-1 will take a short moment to reach the new tempo.
Once again I can’t do the test right now and I just might have not used the good midi settings in Modstep, so sorry for the approximation !
