I previously released my MIDI-controlled video player, MTVP, for iOS; now it’s available on Android.
I developed MTVP because I occasionally create :30, :60, :90, etc. video content for social media, and I like to score to them using my TE synths.
I wanted a simple app to load the video, see timecode, and control playback of it on my iPhone from my OP-1/F/XY. No bells, no whistles, just simply playback control with timecode, but nothing existed, so I developed MTVP:
- Free
- Zero tracking
- No account required
- Responds to System Transport messages: play, stop, continue (with SPP)
- MIDI CC control of start / stop / continue and video mute / unmute via custom configuration
- Timecode display
- Auto BPM detection from MIDI clock
- Hybrid clock sync; timecode corrects to MIDI clock every beat
- Mute video sound on/off via MIDI
- Use the app with a saved video or no video at all
- Loads video files locally; slower startup, no privacy concerns, works offline
- Configurable play and paused timecode colors
- Configurable video muted and unmuted colors
- MIDI connection selection, memory, and state detection
- Connect via cable, Bluetooth, or wireless hub
- Auto / light / dark appearances
- Works with any MIDI‑compatible synth, DAW, sequencer, or software
- iOS version also works on Apple Silicon Macs
