Multisampler on OP-1(F) possible?

I really dig the xy multi sampler and am wondering if it is technically possible for the field to add it as well?

Since the field can only play one instrument at a time (unlike xy which has to be ready for eight), I would think the hardware can’t be the limiting factor, can it? Or is the RAM so tiny that it can’t hold more than 1 sample simultaneously? Even if a field multi sampler would be limited to 4 or 5 samples, I’d happily take it.

My guess is that they shy away from the rather complex UX and UI required to create and manage a multi sample instrument on device. The xy could also improve on that… but since TE is offering more and more high quality online tools, I’d be more than fine with op1f multi sample presets being created solely inside their multi tool

You can technically do multi-sampling:

You need to find your first sound (maximum 20 seconds) and record it onto the tape.
Do this four times with four different sounds on The 4 band track.
Make a loop of it to enable the multi copy Then press Shift + Lift and Shift + Paste to make a solo track.
Lift the track created and paste it into a drum sampler engine.

Save it name it love it

Technically you can make a infinite sample track

I’m pretty sure the hardware for the field and xy is the exact same (someone correct me if I’m wrong) so I doubt there is any hardware limitation.

IIRC they both have a maximum of 24 voices it’s just that on the field only one instrument can access those voices at a time (monotimbral) while on the xy those 24 voices can be distributed across 8 tracks (multitimbral).

I really hope they add the multi sampler. Sure you can use the drum sampler but it’s not the same.

I could find the OP1-field has a ADSP-BF703 blackfin dsp/cpu. It’s a single core cpu. While the XY is described as a dual-core cpu on the TE specs.
Is the XY has 512MB of RAM while the OP1-F has 256 ?

No not dual core proper - dual processor as it has two blackfins

Oh yes my bad, dual processor. Programming must be challenging !

So they are different?

I asked a TE engineer at Superbooth 2025, and he said the hardware platforms are different. XY has dual processor because of voice count. The OP-1 has a maximum synth voice count of 6 (+ tape processing), but the XY has 24. So they moved the DSP to a dedicated processor.

Ah ok. Thanks
